Vybz Kartel Ordered Hits On Dancehall Artist And Others, Says Witness In Clansman-One Don Gang Trial
Following the revelation made on Tuesday by a prosecution witness in the Clansman-One Don gang trial that Vybz Kartel had reportedly ordered hits on three people, including an entertainer, many Dancehall fans are now praising Politricks Watch vlogger Sir P, for having first made the allegations, more than a year ago.
On Tuesday, the witness, who is a former gang member, told the court that the order was reportedly given to the One Don Gang by Kartel via telephone and that an attempt was made on the life of the entertainer, whom he did not name, while the other two targets were killed in a double murder in Waterford, St Catherine, according to The Gleaner.
On news reports on Instagram, there has been a flurry of reminders that Sir P had accused Kartel of plotting an unsuccessful assassination of Popcaan, which was thwarted by the police, in May last year, an allegation which Kartel had categorically denied.
Other allegations are that on one occasion the reputed leader of the gang, Andre ‘Blackman’ Bryan sent the witness to supervise the video shoot for Kartel’s Mhm Hm (Buck Up Inna) , to ensure that it was being executed properly.
Blackman and 32 other alleged gangsters, are being tried on an indictment with 25 counts under the Criminal Justice (Suppression of Criminal Organizations) Act and the Firearms Act.
Last year, after Sir P made allegations that Kartel masterminded a plot with an infamous Spanish Town gang to harm his former protégé Popcaan, in 2016, the Any Weather deejay had ridiculed Sir P and brushed the allegations aside as ludicrous.
“I wanna kill someone, but s__t, roadblock!! Mi na badda,” he wrote in a brief post on his Instagram Story, adding two laughing emoticons, and tagging Popcaan.
Popcaan had also reposted Kartel’s Story to his Instagram, two hours later, indicating that he also felt there was no merit to accusations.
In the post, Sir P had accused Kartel of becoming envious of Popcaan, who had appeared to be on a trajectory towards greatness, that would eclipse the incarcerated deejay’s accomplishments, and make the St. Thomas native the new standard-bearer for Dancehall.
Sir P had said Kartel’s resentment escalated after Popcaan was given a Range Rover by Canadian megastar Drake, and, unable to stand the Unruly Boss’ ascension any longer, the former Gaza Empire head, engaged the gang members to execute the Numbers Don’t Lie artist, following a stage show at Helshire Beach in St. Catherine.
Sir P had outlined that the assassination attempt was thwarted by the police, who intercepted Popcaan’s fleet of vehicles along the Hellshire Main Road, just as the gunmen were to carry out their dastardly act. The police, Sir P had claimed, escorted Popcaan out of a long line of traffic that had blocked the roadway, where the St. Thomas native, unaware of the bounty on his head, was able to get to safety.
Vybz Kartel and his co-accused Shawn Storm, Kahira Jones, and Andre St John were convicted for the August 2011 murder of his associate Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams, whose body has never been found.
Kartel was ordered to serve 35 years before he was eligible for parole, while Storm, Jones, and St John were ordered to serve 25 years minimum. In April 2020, the Jamaica Court of Appeal upheld their convictions but ruled that the four men’s parole-serving times be reduced by two and a half years each.
