Shenseea Covers ‘Hallelujah’ For Apple Music’s Christmas Collection
Dancehall star Shenseea has issued an early holiday treat for music lovers by covering Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah for Apple Music’s, Carols Covered – a collection of popular Christmas songs sung by contemporary artists.
Naturally for her contribution, the 25-year-old single mom chose the song Hallelujah to express her endless gratitude. “What strikes me from the original version is that, to me, it’s a prayer,” Shenseea told Apple Music.
“I’m always praying and I’m always giving praises. I thank God every single day. I acknowledge Jesus just for blessing me with the voice that I have,” she said.
The 3-minute long Christmas carol was released under Rich Immigrants/Interscope Records and was made available exclusively on Apple Music on October 29.
Shengyeng fans will be pleasantly surprised with the Blessed singer’s delivery on her holiday release. It’s a definite addition to Christmas playlists for years to come. She joins a long list of other musicians to have covered Hallelujah, including Michael Bolton, Jennifer Hudson, Bono, Willie Nelson and Celine Dion.
The Dancehall starlet also took a moment to reflect on her fondest holiday memory.
“My favorite holiday memory is my first year of being an artist,” she told Apple. “Because before, I did not have much. When I became an artist, I started to get more financially stable and I was able to buy my son gifts, afford anything I wanted to eat, and I felt more content and relaxed,” she shared.
Shenseea’s cover of Hallelujah also appears on Apple Music’s Peace on Earth playlist where, “The style here varies, and so does the vintage, but the mood and hopes are the same: Let’s set aside our differences for a while and move forward together.”
The collection features 100 diverse selection of songs, from Cold Play’s Paradise, Sam Cooke’s A Change Is Gonna Come, The Jackson Five’s I’ll Be There, H.E.R.’s Fight For You to 2Pac Changes. Bob Marley & The Wailer’s also appears on the list twice with Three Little Birds and One Love/People Get Ready.
