Davido Says He Wants To Work With Koffee
Afrobeats superstar Davido said he would like to collaborate with Grammy-winning Reggae singer Koffee after the Jamaican star praised his work on a recent episode of the BBC 1Xtra’s Influence With….
During the program, which according to BBC 1Xtra is geared towards getting to know an artist’s musical DNA and their influences from their own perspective, the 21-year-old expressed her love for Afrobeats and specifically Davido’s music.
In the Davido segment of the show, Koffee played the Nigerian star’s hits such as Fall, Activate (which features Stonebwoy), Fem, Holy Ground (which features Nicky Minaj) and Risky featuring dancehall superstar Popcaan.
“Ever since hearing him the first time, I have loved him. I love how he presents his work, he’s definitely a musician and not just an artist who just probably write lyrics or whatever, he does the whole nine of things,” the Rapture singer said.
“His way of expression and I think he’s consistent, he also experiments a lot, so he doesn’t stick to one sound. He keeps the bangers coming, so wherever he goes with his direction he always seems to [you know] it hits,” Koffee added.
The reggae singer also took the time to commend other afrobeats artists including The African Giant Burna Boy and Essence singer Wizkid.
She added that “Being Jamaican, there is just a natural thing in our blood that as Jamaicans and as Caribbean people ..we just love afrobeats , like it just resonates, we don’t even have to try . We always love that kind of stuff.’”
When Davido caught wind of Koffee’s comments, he reacted in an Instagram Story, writing, “@originalkoffee let’s get in the lab sis.”
The 29-year-old has so far released three successful albums in the last three years of his career. His hit, Fall, is the first Nigerian song to be certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), after it sold over 500,000 copies. The song, which was released in 2016, currently has a whopping 223 million views on YouTube.
Davido’s latest project called A Better Time, which was released in November of last year, has so far garnered 35 million streams on global music platform Spotify.
Koffee will reportedly release her debut album via RCA Records in 2022. West Indies, the first single from the still-untitled project, has 4.5 million views on YouTube since its release on October 5.
