Mavado Marks 40th Birthday By Remembering Mom Miss Pinny
Dancehall deejay Mavado turns 40 today, but the entertainer seems to be in a more reflective and reminiscent mood, more than a celebratory one.
He took to Instagram to share a photo of his late mother, Elizabeth ‘Miss Pinny’ Gordon, who died in March this year, with a heartfelt caption.
“I forever miss you mama god knows and I didn’t even get to say goodbye 💔, ” he wrote.
Her cause of death was undisclosed, but at the time of her passing at a Kingston hospital, Mavado was in Florida.
Around that time, his 18-year-old son Dantay Brooks was also sentenced to life in prison for murder, along with his co-accused Andre Hinds. Brooks must serve at least 22 years before being eligible for parole. He was also sentenced to 15 years for illegal possession of a firearm and sentenced to 15 years for arson.
Mavado, whose real name is David Constantine Brooks, is known for his breakthrough single Real Mckoy in 2005. In 2011, he signed to DJ Khaled’s We The Best Music Group. The deejay has a plethora of other hit songs such as Weh Dem a Do, So Special, Delilah, My League and Give it All to Me, which featured Nicki Minaj.
Three years ago, Mavado released a tribute song, Mama , on the JA Productions’ Lighthouse riddim, to his mother where he sang that “man never lef yu on a boardside on the Gully, mi tek yu out”, an admission of his humble beginnings before superstardom.
The Caribbean Girls singer has made several other posts dedicated to his mother.
The previous one showed a photo of her sitting on a bed with a gift basket.
The post, dated August 25, was captioned, “Love you mama I’m just glad god bless me to do everything for you before you go just as you did for me before I could do for myself 💪🏽 and so you live a good life me and my little sister and my five bigger brothers will never forget this lady 💔 your grand kids love and misses you too mama just remember us as we do remember you.”
In the meantime, several other entertainers have sent their well wishes to the deejay today.
“OUR day today. Blessed birthday @mavadogully,” wrote Sanchez.
Deejay Cham added, “blessed earth strong @mavadogully Mama’s love and blessing Wow 🙏🏽🎁🎁🎁🎁 ”
Producer Jonny Blaze also said, “More life more blessings mi G.”
