Celebrity music video director, child., says working with Grammy Award-winning Reggae artist Koffee was pure bliss. For one month, they worked together to complete the official music video for The Harder They Fall.

“It was magical. Koffee is brilliant and extremely talented for her age. Everything she put into this video felt very effortless and I think that’s something we were able to capture for this visual,” she told DancehallMag.

In just one day, the video raked in over 768,000 views on YouTube.

child., who maintains somewhat of a mysterious persona, revealed that she actually studied Pre-med, as a student of Clark Atlanta University. She, however, decided to try her hand at music video directing in 2017, since this was a longtime passion of hers.

This was child.’s first stint working with a Jamaican artist, as she revealed that she, “couldn’t think of anyone better to work with than Koffee.”

Her résumé includes directing the videos for Doja Cat’s Woman and Janelle Monae’s Turntables.  She has also worked with Nas, H.E.R., Brittany Howard, Jennifer Hudson, Big Sean, Issa Rae, and more.

Koffee’s single forms part of the official soundtrack by the recently released film of the same name which was produced by billionaire rapper Shawn “Jay Z” Carter. child. said she wanted to maintain cinematic elements in the music video.

“I wanted to keep the film’s essence within the video but elevate it with my personal touches and organically incorporate Koffee’s own style. I think that layered approach made for a dynamic project I’m pretty proud of,” she explained.

The video is set against the backdrop of a deserted Western town inspired by the film, and opens with a scene of a horseback gang overtaking the town, layered under flickering close-ups of characters: Cherokee Bill, Trudy Smith, and Rufus Buck.

The Spanish Town native’s familiar tone dominates the essence of each capture, while she’s styled in 2021 Bottega Veneta (a turquoise feathered, turtle–necked bodysuit).

“I’m very excited about this release,” Koffee said in an official statement.

“Being a part of such a powerful project is an honor. We put a lot of work into bringing this song to life and I hope fans will be able to connect to all the special elements we’ve woven into the video.”

Koffee joined a wide array of versatile, award-winning artists such as JAY-Z, Kid Cudi, Lauryn Hill, Jadakiss, Seal for The Harder They Fall soundtrack, which debuted earlier this year ahead of the film’s global release on Netflix November 3.

The soundtrack was released by Roc Nation in partnership with Netflix.
