Anthony B Pleads For An End To Violence Against Women & Children In Jamaica
Reggae star Anthony B is once again pleading for Jamaicans to stop killing each other.
In an Instagram post made to his page yesterday, the “Raid The Barn” singer addressed the tone of violence in the country and how much Jamaicans have culturized themselves to violence, specifically against women and children.
“How unuh a kill off the woman dem suh bredda, an a murder the pickney dem, 3 year old and 6 year old. Su wah gwan, Jamaica we soon feel like we indigenous,” he said. “Not just indigenous but an endangered species, we soon have to call wild life to come and protect wi or UNESCO, a we have to protect ourselves, lion wake up papa, Jah know star.”
The post is captioned, “Jamaica please help us share this message all over the world, join us in the campaign against violence.”
The songwriter told DancehallMag that this topic needs to be addressed on a daily basis, he mentioned the need of “pushing it in peoples faces to create change and effect.”
“Per year we are killing more people than any country our size without ever having any kind of war, so I am saying the death of women and children is now showing us that this crime is not just gangsters or political violence or drugs or scamming these all play apart, but what part of these fractions would we classify woman and children, old grandma & grandpa in? So we must wake up now and make this our main issue right now. At the rate in which we are killing each other, it’s like we are trying to wipe out the island’s population,” he asserted. “Everyday I will post something to help create awareness on all my social media platforms.”

In the slew of murders that have occurred, one such is the bizarre case reported by the Gleaner on November 22 of this year. A 16-year-old girl was slain in an odd manner at her home and was among “12 persons killed in over 24 hours on the weekend in a psychological blow to the states of emergency imposed to rein in runaway murders.”
Among the deceased were two unidentified men in St Mary, but the death of Sorika Picart at her Lincoln Road home in east Kingston stands out. Reports are that the high schooler and her best friend were playing, when it was alleged that her granduncle approached her and shot her several times, hitting her in the head, left arm, and upper body.
Anthony B, born Keith Blair, in May celebrated over 19,000,000 Spotify streams for his 2005 album Black Star, produced by Maximum Sound.
In May 2020, Anthony B released his 20th studio album titled, King In My Castle.
