Beenie Man Reacts To Reports Of His Arrest In Ghana For Quarantine Breaches
Dancehall kingpin Beenie Man reacted this morning with indifference to reports that he was arrested for COVID-19 quarantine breaches in Ghana.
The matter has reportedly been resolved, following reports in Ghana that he was arrested by immigration authorities after allegedly “escaping” from quarantine, and circumventing restrictions.
ZJ Sparks made the revelation about the resolution of the matter today, in an Instagram post, to which Beenie responded with an eye emoji. On the Observer’s report, the Who Am I singer reacted with a 🥴 (Woozy face) emoji.
This morning Ghananian news website Citi News, broke the story that Beenie, whose given name is Moses Davis, “was arrested a few days ago by Ghanaian authorities for allegedly evading COVID-19 quarantine” and producing a fraudulent Negative COVID-19 result card.
“Citi News information suggests that Beenie Man tested positive for the virus upon arrival at the Kotoka International Airport last week and was sent into mandatory quarantine at the AH Hotel in East Legon by health officials,” the report read.
“However, the artiste reportedly escaped from the hotel and appeared on a number of media platforms before performing at the Bhim Concert organised by Ghanaian Dancehall artiste, Stonebwoy,” it added.
Citi News also said that it had made “checks” which revealed that the Yaw Yaw artist was nabbed by officials from the Ghana Immigration Service, at the airport, when he returned for his passport after the concert.
“According to the Ghana Immigration Service, he has currently been released to the Ghana Health Service officials and his lawyers… He is alleged to have produced a fake clearance certificate from the Ghana Health Service, which has become a subject of investigations by Ghanaian security officials,” Citi News noted in the article.
Under Ghana’s COVID-19 prevention protocols, visitors are allowed into the country via its capital Accra, but only if fully vaccinated and must also present a negative PCR test.
In addition, those who test positive for COVID-19 upon arrival, whether or not they are asymptomatic, will be will immediately be transferred to hospital for further assessment. Following this, they will be ordered to undergo mandatory quarantine and treatment at a designated health facility or isolation center, for seven days at their own expense, according to the rules.
Those who test negative for COVID-19, will be allowed entry into the country with no quarantine requirement, but will be instructed to continue to observe COVID safety precautions following arrival, according to the authorities.
The news of Beenie Man’s tribulations was met with sympathy by Grammy nominee Gramps Morgan, who responded via ZJ Sparks IG page this morning.
“People love to spread BAD NEWS and hold down all the good stuff prayers for our bredda @kingbeenieman 🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲👑👑👑🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾❤️❤️❤️,” he noted in support of his compatriot.
Beenie Man arrived in Accra, Ghana last week for Stonebwoy’s Bhim Concert, which he co-headlined, and which took place at the Grand Arena in the country’s capital last week Tuesday.
The BHIM Concert, which is held annually was being staged for the fifth time and was organized by Stonebwoy and his Burniton Music Group.
Beenie Man and Stonebwoy performed at the show alongside other Ghananian artists such as Samini, Kwaw Kese, MzVee and Empress Gifty.
In mid-May this year, Beenie was fined $150,000 in the St Elizabeth Parish Court in Jamaica, for breaching the Disaster Risk Management Act (DRMA).
He was initially slapped with an additional charge of breaching the Noise Abatement Act, but that charge was later dismissed.
Beenie’s court case was in relation to an event in Shrewsbury district, in St. Elizabeth on November 29, 2020, where the Black River police had turned up at the venue, ordered the crowd to leave, and warned Beenie for prosecution.
