Vybz Kartel Lashes Out At Alkaline After YouTuber Compared Their Influence
It seems popular YouTuber and Dancehall producer/artist Terro Don has struck the wrong note with incarcerated deejay Vybz Kartel in his latest upload.
In the video, which was posted yesterday to his YouTube channel that currently boasts 296,000 subscribers, Terro did a comparison between Kartel, and one of his rivals, Alkaline. It is no secret that neither Vybz Kartel nor Alkaline are each other’s cups of tea, spanning from as early as the mid-2010s when the Move Mountains deejay, whose given name is Earlan Bartley, launched his career.
In an outraged Instagram story post early this morning, the Worl’ Boss expressed his annoyance with Terro Don at the parallelism in the video.
“All da waste bwoy vlogger de weh a TRY size up him little copy cat blind bat artiste side a giant, history won’t remember dem, just like how history nuh remember 99% a di man dem ina Bob Marley era so enjoy di moment…it will be fleeting,” his first post read.
The ‘blind bat’ reference was a jab at the tattooed eyeballs stunt which Alkaline pulled during his rookie years.
The mention of Bob Marley should also be noted, as it was only a few weeks ago that popular Jamaican-American Hip-Hop commentator DJ Akademiks claimed that Kartel has more influence on Dancehall than what Marley, The Beatles, Elvis Presley, and Jay-Z had on their respective genres.
In a subsequent story post, the Colouring This Life deejay went on to toot his own horn, for influencing other aspects of popular culture like fashion and physical appearance, through his music.
“11 years later and di wull World still a wear clarks like no new shoes nuh make, still a bleach and tattoo like ink can’t done. What new weh dem do? Which global trend dem set? Which continent dem control? How much giant dem create? How much decades of greatness dem have?” the deejay said, before hinting at his supremacy in the Dancehall arena.
“If me did a pay child support me money woulda done..cause all a dem a mi son,” he added.
Kartel, whose given name is Adidjah Palmer, is serving a life sentence for the murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams, but has consistently released new music; maintained his verified Instagram account; and fielded interviews with international media houses since his incarceration in 2011.
In his upload, Terro Don noted that Alkaline and Kartel were both influential on society, with a slight mention of Tommy Lee Sparta, who is also currently incarcerated.
“Vybz Kartel come sing bout Clarks, come sing bout cake soap, come sing bout whole heap a tings weh mek people want fi dweet. Alkaline come mek the whole mass a wear vendetta mask. Kartel mek the mass a wear Clarks and a buy toothbrush, all who nuh brush teeth. Tommy Lee come mek people a wear mask and a gwaan like dem a demon and all dem sumn deh,” he said.
Trench Town native Terro Don, who started his popular YouTube channel in 2012, has also made a name for himself as a deejay with songs like Solid, War on the Cyzmik Music label, Why on Tensai Music label, and Haunted on the Up a Hill Management label.
As a producer, Terro had a hand in the breakout success of Silk Boss during 2021, on songs such as Mankind, Geet Weh, Life Story, and Dat Rich.
Alkaline has not yet responded to the posts up to the time of publishing.
