Dancehall artist Mr. Lexx has complained that the genre is being infiltrated.

“This industry is too easy to enter,” Mr. Lexx wrote in a tweet today. “It’s flooded by people pretending to be artists and producers. And with money and contacts they often times go around the real producers and artists. That leads to u the fans getting quantity instead of quality without knowing. Dis affi stop.”

The Full Hundred singer’s tweet comes in the wake of reports about the death of music producer Tadmar, who police have labeled as a triggerman in a recent murder.

Senior Superintendent of Police Aaron Fletcher, head of the St. Andrew North division, issued a statement that Tadmar was a criminal wanted for the shooting death of a man on Sunday.

Fletcher said the investigation had been completed and the “file concluded”, and claimed that Tadmar had even shot at the police before his death on Tuesday night in Grants Pen.

“Yesterday the police had a confrontation with a known criminal, a man called Tadmar, who we have evidence shot and killed a man on Sunday whilst he was performing construction work in the community and fired shots at another man also,” he said.

Fletcher upbraided residents of Cruiser Banks, who blocked roads and set fire to protest the man’s killing.  The Superintendent said that the display of social unrest was “a show of support for criminality and lawlessness which is evidence of the magnitude of social decay that has taken place in our society”.

“This will not be tolerated and supported by the police. We will not tolerate support for or tolerate acts of criminality within the space without taking action,” Superintendent Fletcher said.

However, alleged eyewitnesses claim the confrontation was an extra-judicial killing as there was no shootout in the community of Cruiser Banks in Grants Pen, St Andrew. Residents on Wednesday vowed to continue their protest over the producer’s killing, as they remain adamant that the police did not have to kill him.

Eyewitnesses claimed that Tadmar was at the premises with other individuals, including a child, at the time of the incident. The producer was reportedly inside his room with the child and another person when he heard sounds in the kitchen. Tadmar went to investigate and an explosion was heard. Then several more explosions were heard.

The Dancehall fraternity has been besieged by a number of high-profile shootings and murders in 2021. During the course of the year, Dancehall artists Fadagad, Killfood, Paparazzi, and Kashmar were shot and killed in separate incidents by persons unknown.

Female Dancehall artist D British was also killed in a domestic violence incident involving her male partner.

Earlier this year, dancehall producer Shab Don was charged with illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition following the stop and search conducted in Old Harbour, St. Catherine, on October 14.  He is currently on bail on that charge and he is set to return to court on January 20 to answer corruption charges relating to an alleged $2 million offer to a policeman to remove the illegal firearm from his grey Mercedes-Benz motor car, before it was searched by experts.
