Versi Mentions Popcaan’s Mother By Name In Diss Track

Dancehall artist Versi has followed up his war of words with Popcaan by releasing a new diss track called Popcaan Suck Back Yu Madda, where he mentions the Unruly Boss’ mother, popularly known as Miss Rhona, by name.

On the Cawvinz Entertainment track released via YouTube yesterday, Versi deejayed: “Marrow fly, skull a drop inna yu daddy lap/Rhona grab up her belly when yu body drop/yu granny haffi cover body with a broad sheet/shortly yu gone sleep”.

In the song, Versi also made comments about Popcaan’s financial situation—implying that his mother’s rent was not being paid on time—and tested Popcaan’s claims of loyalty to his friends and family with the line: ‘yu a sing bout family and every year yu a par with another team’.

Versi told DancehallMag that he was somewhat surprised that Popcaan had such a hardcore reaction to his innocuous comments about the Unruly Camp.

“Mi kinda surprised but not really,” Versi said. “Mi surprised at his reaction because everything me talk is true, but mi not surprised really because Popcaan caught up inna ego, him money ah fool him. He forgot reality, and him need a reality check, that’s why mi do this song.”

The feud was triggered earlier this week when Versi sought to promote his other new single Naw Steam via social media on January 4.  His promotion included a statement that suggested he had helped Popcaan to establish his Unruly brand, and had co-written the song Unruly Anthem with Popcaan, Quada and Jafrass.

The Unruly Boss took umbrage to the claims with some unflattering comments regarding Versi’s mother. Popcaan followed up with the pointed question of how he (Versi) helped to build a brand such as ‘Unruly’ when he was still a relative unknown in the industry.

An enraged Versi hit back online with choice comments regarding Popcaan’s father.

Speaking with DancehallMag, Versi maintained that his comments on Naw Steam were grounded in truth.

“I was just talking my truth on Naw Steam, Octane know the truth, and how much mi contribute, and him never tek it no way, so who is Popcaan fi deny the truth?” Versi concluded.

On the new diss track, one fan reacted, “We know Popcaan nah go reply because him run from war faster than Bolt”.
