Rytikal, Now ‘Purytikal’, Promises Positive Music Only And No Skillibeng Beef
Dancehall artist Rytikal has added a new stage moniker to his name as Purytikal — to represent a purer and clean side of the St. Thomas native’s new music in 2022, and beyond.
The Eastsyde deejay made the revelation during an interview on January 21 with Winford Williams on the entertainment program Onstage . “Due to the fact that Rytikal was known for King Inna War , Cookie Jar and some other songs weh are more on a violent perspective, suh for the new year is purity, so you’re going to get a pure Rytikal, so it’s Puritykal,” the Chosen artist said.
He outlined that he will be incorporating more positive material into his catalog to empower and uplift his listeners.
“The music will be positivity only, yuh nah guh hear nobody else other than Rytikal, just Purytikal, purity,” he assured. “You will be getting a better Rytikal, better lyrics, a positive person that’s for sure, people will be looking at life differently.”
“I can proudly say that I didn’t get my subjects in school, but would you call me dunce?” he asked the host, to which he responded, “there is nothing about you that is dunce”.
Rytikal said he wanted to be an example to persons in a similar situation as himself; not necessarily traditionally educated but still having something to offer, not giving up, regardless of that educational setback.
When asked about the beef with Skillibeng, the songwriter told host Williams that there is no beef and that Skillibeng will always be good, as they are from the same place and will always be family.
“Both of us were born in Air Castle, we are from the same place, our families are connected. We wouldn’t want to go around hurting our family,” he said.
The artist also addressed his gun-related charges and mentioned that whether the outcome of his case is good or bad, he will always be in a firm place as an individual. “Life comes with stress and that’s the best, motivation keeps us going,” he said.
On January 28 last year, the police were on patrol in Eight Miles, Bull Bay when Rytikal was seen acting in a suspicious manner. The police questioned him and on searching his motorcar a gun with 12 rounds of ammunition was allegedly found in the vehicle. He reportedly told the police that the firearm was a prop for a music video, but was arrested and charged.
Rytikal is best known for his song Chosen, which was released 7 months ago on the My Letter To You Riddim from Dynasty Records and DJ Mac.
“You know I was going through a phase, with the whole jail thing, and that happened just inna the time when mi career ah forward. Is a ting mi a wonder , mi a meds say why certain things have to happen?” Rytikal told DancehallMag last year.
“That’s why mi ask so many questions inna the song, even if yu pree the scripture, that scripture came about because is somebody tell me fi read some Psalms. When mi see this one, it speak to mi different.”
The self introspective song propelled him to the next level of his career and currently holds upwards of 13 million views on YouTube and is listed in DancheallMag’s 50 Best Dancehall Songs of 2021 .
