Busy Signal Remains Grounded With His Accomplishments On 43rd Birthday
Dancehall superstar Busy Signal says he will be streamlining more first-class music during this year, even as he continues to celebrate four music recording certifications for hit songs Bumaye, Stay So, and Santa Maria.
The St. Ann native spent his 43rd birthday on Monday celebrating with his fellow deejays and took much time out to extend heartfelt thanks to his fans, producers, and all those involved in the growth of his career.
Busy appears to have the proverbial Dancehall music “formula”, as his accomplishments come at a time when most of his Dancehall counterparts continue to receive sub-par album and singles sales and streams.
He told DancehallMag that in spite of all his global accomplishments, he remains a grounded person.
“It’s always a blessings for me. Time is the master. We nuh jumpy and rushy. I don’t beat my chest and talk talk things like I’m the biggest Deejay or the baddest. I just stay in my lane and work and it’s been working so far,” he explained.
“I’m grateful. I’m not into faking things, so it feels really good that organically I can achieve these 4 plaques and feel even more special on my birthday. Just wanna thank all the parties involve, My Team, Labels, Family and last but not least, THE FANS,” Busy added.
On Monday, Busy Signal showed off one plaque certifying Bumaye as having gone platinum in France, a country in which in order to be bestowed with that certification, singles must have a sales/streaming total of 200,000 units.
He also shared that Bumaye had also been certified gold in the United Kingdom, which means it has sold/streamed more than 400,000 units.
Busy, whose given name is Reanno Gordon, also shared a plaque for Santa Maria, a collab with Spanish artist Bad Gyal, which was certified platinum in Spain, having sold more than 40,000 units.
Stay So, the lead-out track from Busy’s 2019 Parts of The Puzzle album, also came in for recognition from him, having recorded more than 100 million streams.
Busy appeared touched by the greeting given to him by Bounty Killer, who last year titled him one of his Alliance’s “Pure Four”. On Monday, Bounty declared Busy the serving Dancehall president and wished him love, health and “a little more wealth”.
“It’s only one Bounty Killer!! I’m lost for words!! what more can I say? Thank you is not enough. I’m grateful!” Busy noted in his response to his longtime mentor and friend.
As for his schedule for the rest of 2022, the One More Night artist says he was holding his cards close to his chest, but that there was much more fuel in his musical tank that his fans can expect.
“They can expect Music As usual, there are a few stuff I can’t really mention, it’s too early to, but just want them to know that I got them. I will continue to make them proud to be Busy Signal Fans, Dancehall Fans. I will continue to produce good music,” he told DancehallMag.
Busy, who emerged onto the Dancehall scene in 2003, was declared Dancehall Artiste of the Decade by the International Reggae and World Music Awards.
In 2005, he had his first hit single, Step Out , which was followed by his debut album of the same name in 2006. Over the decades he has had a slew of other massive hits including These Are The Days , Wine Pon Di Edge , Unknown Number , and Jail .
Busy Signal has mastered covers and remixes of old hits such as Phil Collins’ 1985 One More Night , the Commodores’ award-winning Nightshift, which was also released in 1985, and Kenny Rogers’ The Gambler popularly known as Coward of the County in 2011.
