Robbie Shakespeare’s Funeral Will Be Held Today
Today, there will be a thanksgiving service for the life of the late reggae musician and record producer Robbie Shakespeare.
The legendary bassist of the musical duo, Sly and Robbie, died on December 8 in a Florida hospital.
Minister Grange, who is handling the arrangements, in collaboration with the Shakespeare family, says the public will be able to participate in the farewell to the musical legend.
The funeral and interment will be attended by close family and friends, but will not be open to the general public. However, arrangements will be made for the live- streaming of the service on February 7 on social media and PBCJ.
Yesterday, scores of mourners on Sunday filed past the casket of famed reggae musician at the National Indoor Sports Centre in Kingston. Condolence books were also opened at the venue.
Born on September 27, 1953, Robert Warren Dale Shakespeare was raised in East Kingston in a musical family. As one half of the Riddim Twins, Sly and Robbie, he would rise to become one of the most formidable and internationally acclaimed bass players the world has ever known. Shakespeare died in Florida on December 8, 2021, following kidney surgery.
He was 68.
