Popcaan Reveals Name Of New Album
As Dancehall artist Popcaan inches closer to the release of his newest album, he has revealed that the title will be Great is he, Great is me.
He made the official announcement in a caption, via his social media accounts on Monday night, alongside photos of himself sitting atop an ATV. He was, however, tight-lipped about the release date, and the number of tracks.
The Dun Rich deejay’s last project was the FIXTAPE, which dropped in August 2020 under OVO Sound. The 19-track set featured Drake—twice, French Montana, PartyNextDoor, and Preme, as well as a host of elite Dancehall acts including Jada Kingdom, Stylo G, Tommy Lee Sparta, Masicka, Dane Ray and Frahcess One.
The album, Popcaan’s 4th, debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart. It also cracked the Billboard 200 chart with a significant showing at No. 94 after raking in sales of approximately 8,800 total units with streaming during its first week. According to data provided to DancehallMag, from Billboard’s sales tracker MRC Data, FIXTAPE moved over 34,000 units in 2021.
Meanwhile, Poppy’s fans are already expressing enthusiasm at what seems to be a fast-approaching project.
In 2014, Popcaan released his debut studio album, Where We Come From under Mixpak Records. It peaked at No. 2 on Billboard’s Reggae Albums chart.
His sophomore album Forever was also done under the auspices of Mixpak Records, with production again being primarily handled by Dre Skull. Forever entered the Billboard 200 chart at No. 171 and had also peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Reggae albums chart.
Popcaan, whose given name is Andrae Sutherland, signed to Drake’s OVO Sound in late 2018, and one year later, he released his third album Vanquish on the Canadian label. The album debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Reggae Albums Chart, just as its predecessors did.
The deejay has also released two EPs; the first was Link Up – a joint effort with labelmate Preme that was released in November 2020. In February 2021, his Gyalentine’s EP was released with four tracks.
