Jah9 Reveals She’s Expecting A Child, Says Fans Can Expect New Music
Reggae songstress Jah9 has revealed that she’s expecting a child.
The Love Has Found I singer, 38, shared the news via Instagram on Tuesday night.
Seated on a stool, while caressing her protruding abdomen in Tanzania, East Africa, the entertainer shared a poetic caption to debut the news to the world.
“My prayer is my deepest breath… taken with gratitude…confidence beyond myself but rather in the divine intelligence that creates and governs life…in complete awe of the perfection that is womanhood…and the abundance that is possible through surrender…#nationbuilding #letlovelead #fruitsofbalance,” she began.
She delved a bit deeper into her personal life, noting that she had no idea what lay ahead for her when she emigrated to Africa. By the looks of things, they seemed to have turned out well.
“It’s now officially 2 years since I left Jamaica for the continent…not knowing the plans that were unfolding ahead of me but trusting the guidance of my intuition, the ancestors the Most High…leading me forward…#newlife,” she said.
The singer added that fans should stay tuned for “new music and new projects”.
Jah9 was born Janine Elizabeth Cunningham, in Montego Bay, St James. Her music is often described as “jazz on dub” because her singing voice is influenced by Nina Simone and Bille Holiday partly combined with the Dancehall sound of Sizzla and the more potent dub rhythms similar to those of Augustus Pablo.
She released her first album New Name in 2013 under VP Records, followed by 9 (2016) and Note to Self (2020) which included Heaven (Ready Fi Di Feeling), Note To Self (Okay) with Chronixx, and Ready To Play with Tarrus Riley.
More recently, she teamed up with Yaadcore and the Subatomic Sound System for a cover of John Holt’s 1982 classic Police in Helicopter.
