One of the most popular takeaways from Shenseea’s Egocentric—which formed part of her debut album ALPHA —was “Mean man worse than bruk man.”  The 25-year-old Jamaican entertainer, who has always proclaimed her independence, says the song was inspired by a rich but stingy ex.

“Mi leff the man. I left the ni–a because him never did a help me with nothing, and the man have money. And mi a seh bredda, ‘mean man worse than bruk man,'” the Trending Gyal singer said in a candid Instagram Live on Sunday (March 13).

“That’s how I came up with that line, because it’s true. You worse than a bruk man. Because [with] a bruk man, it is understandable that he doesn’t have it to give or to contribute. But when you have the money and siddung pon it and nah put it to likkle use, then why do I need you? Weh me need yuh fah? I don’t need you,” she declared.

“And his ego was very big. His ego was so big, and that’s why I named the song Egocentric.”

The song, which was produced by her longtime associates Slyda Di Wizard and DJ Blackboi, currently has 150,000 views on YouTube.

During the Live, Shenseea reiterated that she needs a partner who will also be able to bring something to the table.  She provided more context into what she meant about detesting “mean men”.

“Not because I have my own money, mean I’m going to take up a man who cannot do anything for me, or who doesn’t want to contribute to anything that I have going on,” she said.

“Because, if you are in my life, I have to benefit from you, and you have to benefit from me. You cannot just be benefiting from me and me nah benefit from you. But Jesus! Relationships are supposed to help you to grow, and help you to be better and I would like for my spouse to teach me something that I didn’t know before I met them. [I’m] all about experiences, but we are spending time together. It’s an investment, because time is precious,” the Shenyeng princess added.

The Be Good singer recently admitted to being in a relationship on The Breakfast Club, but was adamant that nobody knows who her partner is.

During Sunday’s IG live, Shen further said she would never become involved with a man that does not take initiative to offer her assistance.

“Me nah go ask a man fi nothing. I don’t want anything from no man fi me fi beg dem. Me nah beg a man fi nothing, dat is not how I was raised,” she emphasised.

“But also, you don’t need a man if you can do everything by yourself and they’re letting you do everything by yourself. Because then otherwise, why are you here? We don’t have to be in a relationship if that’s the case. Because then, the only thing you can give me is d-ck, and as a single woman, you can get that everywhere so why you need to be in a relationship,” the Run Run singer continued.

Shenseea has always been pretty private about her dating life. However, There have been numerous dating rumors surrounding her name, the first of which was with her manager Romeich Major.  “Can we please move past this rumor now, @romeichentertainment and I are not in a relationship, that’s my bro, honestly,” she wrote last year on Instagram.

There was also a claim that she was pregnant for Canadian rapper Drake, but she dispelled that. The most recent rumor was that she was with American producer, London On Da Track, but she insists that’s not the case.

During her Live session which saw almost 11,000 viewers, Shenyeng added that she believes in reciprocity in her romantic relationships.

“I believe that I’m supposed to spoil my man, and my man supposed to spoil me back. Not me just a spoil man suh and man nah do nothing fi me. Watch yah! Now there suh, Shenyeng woulda be a man clown. That deevn sound right; even though it’s not true. The thought of it being a possibility in my head…Shenyeng, being a man clown (inserts sounds of disgust) dash weh dah statement deh.”
