Romantic Call singer Patra has teamed up with Dancehall producer Ainsley ‘NotNice’ Morris to record tracks, ahead of her official return to music, after a years-long hiatus.

Just over a week after she announced that she was inspired and was back in musical mode, the Workerman singer posted two video clips of herself in the studio with the Kyng Midas producer, who was busy at work.

“Yow – I wish I could let you guys hear what’s going on here in the studio with notnice! Only working with the best,” she noted under her first video clip.

In the other video, she showed NotNice serving her liquor which he told her was aged and mellow.  “I asked Notnice where the nearest shop/bar was, but he was already prepared,” she captioned the post.

NotNice emerged in 2007 under the GAZA camp as a beatmaker for songs such as Vybz Kartel’s Last Man Standing, Cake Soap, and Mama.  He also has production credits for Spice’s So Mi Like It, Jah Vinci’s Watch Yuh Friends, Popcaan’s Gangster City and Dream, Shawn Storm’s My Life, Quada’s Celebration and more.

Following her surprise performance on the DJ Cassidy’s Pass The Mic: BET Afterparty 2022, following the 53rd NAACP Image Awards, the Westmoreland native had made the revelation of her return.

In the 1990s, Patra was a hotshot on the US musical scene, rubbing shoulders with icons such as Tupac Shakur and her Jamaican compatriots Shabba Ranks, Madd Cobra, and Orville “Shaggy” Burrell.

Her two gold-selling album Queen of the Pack featured the timeless Queen of the Pack title track, as well as Workerman, and Romantic Call.  The album, which was released in 1993, peaked at No. 1 on the Reggae albums chart. It was led by the single Think (About It) which peaked at No. 21 on the Billboard Rap Singles chart and No. 89 on the R&B charts.

Worker Man was a massive hit, reaching No. 53 on the Hot 100, the Top 20 on the R&B chart and No. 1 on the U.S. Dance chart.  In addition, Romantic Call, which was a collab with rapper Yo-Yo, peaked at number 55 on the US charts and number 21 on the US Dance charts.

The Westmoreland native also landed on the US charts as a featured singer on the Shabba Ranks song, Family Affair, which went to No. 84 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1994.

In 1995, Patra released a cover of Grace Jones’ Pull up to the Bumper which peaked at No. 60 on the Hot 100, No. 21 on the R&B, and No. 15 on the Dance charts.

Her second album, Scent of Attraction followed later that year, and peaked at No. 151 on the Billboard 200, No. 28 on the R&B/Hip Hop Albums, and number one on the Reggae charts.   The Scent of Attraction title track which featured singer Aaron Hall, peaked at No. 82 on the Hot 100, and became her fourth Top 40 song peaking at No. 31.

“Trendsetter,” she noted on a recent post of the album’s cover which may have inspired one of Shenseea’s recent promotional photos.
