Projexx, who signed a deal with Warner Records in late 2020, is the son of music producer Lloyd “John John” James and grandson of Lloyd “King Jammy” James, arguably one of dancehall’s most influential producers. Last year, he released a seven-song EP titled Queen Hill — featuring songs such as Bigga League with Bakersteez and Unda Pressure with Toian — in tribute to his hometown.
The singjay said producer Juls reached out on Instagram where they exchanged a couple of beats and songs, much to WizKid’s liking. “I’ve been listening to WizKid from way back,” he told the Observer last year. “He was one of the first artistes to introduce me to Afrobeats.”
According to chart data, True Love impacted US urban radio on February 2022. It currently has just over 7.2 million views on YouTube.

Wizkid revealed back in November that True Love would be the next song off the album to get a music video, adding that it was going to be his “best one yet”.
According to reports, True Love was meant to be the flagship single for Made In Lagos, until Essence with Tems developed global appeal. It peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and is currently at No. 39, having spent 35 weeks on the chart.
The song is nominated for Best Global Music Performance at the upcoming 64th Annual Grammy Awards and is certified double platinum in the US for sales exceeding 2 million units.
Essence was later remixed with Justin Bieber on the deluxe edition of the Made In Lagos album, which is itself nominated for Best Global Music Album at the upcoming Grammy Awards.
The 14-track collection, which was released by Starboy Entertainment and RCA Records, also includes another Jamaican feature, Damian ‘Junior Gong’ Marley , on the single Blessed.
Other collaborations include Burna Boy, H.E.R., Ella Mai, Skepta, Terri and Buju.
