Mr. Bertus Marches On With ‘African Soldier’
Reggae artist Mr. Bertus is pleased with the feedback to his latest single, African Soldier, a song that affirms his cultural identity as a strong mission-oriented African descendant who adheres to a strict moral code.
“I am getting a lot of support for the African Soldier song, a lot of deejays in Africa, Costa Rica and the tri-state area of New York are playing it, and fans are calling me from all over the world saying that this is the song, it is my fastest bussing song, is a blessing for this righteous soldier trodding that road yah,” Mr. Bertus said.
“DJ Snow carried the riddim to me and the riddim talk to me, it called to me, the old ancestors dem, I believe in spirituality of the black African nation and it just come natural,cause mi embed that in me. When mi hear the horns, Africa mi ah hear and the Most High and mi nah go stray from the words the bible taught me, everything builds from Africa and is a joy to build a song about where my foreparents come from, mi bloodline,” he added.
He thanked selectors such as DJ Steary J, DJ Malcolm X on Superjamz, DJ Killaboo from IRIE Jams and selectors DJ Kat from KLAS FM and Amber from IRIE FM for their support.
The song will be one of the tracks on an EP which he will be releasing through this Summer. He is booked for a multi-city tour in the UK this Summer arranged by the label Top Secret Records who produced Bertus’ Brighter Days single years ago

Born Marlon Ainsworth, Mr Bertus hails from Portmore, St Catherine. He made his recording debut while attending Bridgeport High, performing on various shows in Jamaica such as Rebel Salute, Reggae in the Valley, Ganga Fest, and the weekly Bomb Box Free Flow at Sizzla’s Judgment Yard.
Influenced by Tyrone Taylor, Josey Wales, The Wailers, Tony Rebel and and U-Roy, Mr Bertus’s songs include: Green Apple with Mighty Diamond which is his most streamed song on Spotify, Ganga For Life which has generated 2.5 million views on Facebook and Brainfood on the 18KaratReggae Gold album.
Mr. Bertus is also well known for the combination single, ‘They Have No Love’ featuring I Wayne for Dirtworx Records, and Things and Time for Goldmine Records.
