Popcaan Drops Flashy Visuals For ‘Skeleton Cartier’: Watch
Dancehall star Popcaan has shared his flashy new video for Skeleton Cartier, which is billed as the first single from his forthcoming fifth studio album, Great Is He.
The song, which was prominently featured in the campaign for Drake’s first official Nike x NOCTA shoe release, finds Popcaan showing off his continued success in music. In the video, he revels in all of it, driving a shiny Benz SUV through the luxury shopping streets of London and partying in an ever-shifting nocturnal blur of ladies and jewels. And, of course, he gets fitted for a Santos de Cartier Skeleton watch.
“This song is about how I was feeling after I ordered myself a Skeleton Cartier watch for my birthday,” Poppy explained in a release. “This was possible because I put in the work.”
For the upcoming project, Great Is He, Popcaan hinted that he will once again be commenting on societal hardships. “This time around it’s the same thing. And you’ve got the pandemic too, which is a whole different madness, so all those things is in the music as well,” he told Rolling Stone earlier this month
“Where I’m from, a lot of youths can’t even afford a bicycle, much less a Cartier,” he said. “When I was making [Forever] I was going through a lot of things personally.”
His FIXTAPE album, which was released in August 2020, was the best-selling current Dancehall album in 2021 with 34,000 units sold during that year, according to data provided to DancehallMag. The album peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart, as did Where We Come From (2014), Forever (2018), and Vanquish (2019).
