Mavado Surprises Alkaline, Fans At New Rules Miami
Dancehall artist Alkaline was met with a surprise appearance from compatriot Mavado at the recent staging of New Rules in Miami.
The Miramar Regional Park Amphitheater was full to capacity on Sunday (March 27), replicating the crowd at the inaugural staging which was held five years ago in Kingston. As the Gully Gad stormed the stage alongside the headliner, they treated patrons to their 2016 hit, Farewell.
Mavado soon segued into his highly successful track My League, before Alkaline interjected with One Inna Dem Head and Badness It Name. It was back over to Mavado who riled up the crowd for a short minute while Alkaline later spat the hardcore lyrics to Ready. Mavado interrupted with House Cleaning, before ending with, “New Rules, mi just ah pass through. Gully Side/Vendetta, yuh zeet?”
Wayne Wonder, Kranium, and 450 also appeared on the show.
The first staging of the event in Kingston, which saw performances from Mavado, Shaggy, Tarrus Riley, I-Octane and Jahmiel, had pulled thousands of exuberant fans, who later caused a stampede, at the cusp of the Champion Boy’s performance.
In February 2020, following a two-year absence, Alkaline had announced that the second staging of New Rules had been scheduled for the grounds of the National Stadium in Kingston, on Saturday, April 25.
However, the show was not to be, as the COVID-19 virus became a pandemic, mere weeks after the announcement. Alkaline’s New Era Production, in a statement then announced that they had decided to postpone the event.
Local fans are keeping hope alive that they will be able to see the deejay in living color, soon, with the recent reopening of the entertainment industry.
