Reggae Singer Jimi D Shows ‘Defiance’ To Pursue His Musical Dreams
As a trained paramedic in the United States, Kingston-born singer Jimi D is a three-time survivor of COVID-19, having contracted the virus several times as a result of the demanding nature of his job.
Even though most countries have lifted COVID-19 restrictions, Jimi D believes that the COVID-19 pandemic is far from over.
“They’re trying to say COVID-19 is over, because of the fatigue of battling the disease and the fact that the money to fight it is running out, but it is far from being over. There is news coming out of Europe and China that there is a spike, a new BA.2 variant that is mashing up the place that is deadlier than the Delta and Omicron, a combination of the two,” he said.
The international media has reported a surge in Covid-19 cases across Europe that could soon filter out to the rest of the world. The rise in cases across the continent, from the U.K. and France to Italy and Austria, is being driven by several factors such as waning immunity from vaccines, the removal of COVID-19 restrictions, COVID-19 fatigue and the insidious spread of the more transmissible omicron subvariant, BA.2.
Germany has been reporting record-high numbers of cases of between 250,000 to 300,000 new infections a day in the last week.
Jimi D is promoting his latest single, Defiance, which has been added to the rotation lists of several local radio stations.
“Every day I wake up to my phone ringing and it’s always someone calling me from Jamaica to tell me they just heard Defiance on the radio. I’m eternally grateful for all the love I am getting in Jamaica. I’m also grateful to the people who are supporting me in the US, Africa, England and other parts of the world,” he said.
His follow-up single titled Karma was leaked to radio two weeks ago since then it has been enjoying heavy rotation on several local radio stations.
“This is so surreal this song hasn’t even been released yet and it’s already blowing up the radio. Everyone is telling me it’s going to be a hit,” said Jimi D.
Produced by Jimi D for C & E imprint Karma is scheduled to be officially released on all digital platforms on the 28th of April.
He plans to shoot videos for Defiance and Karma in April.
“I’m getting ready to shoot the video for Defiance, we’re going to do it in Atlanta. I’ve already made all the necessary preparations to shoot it and have it ready for release before the end of the month. After that I plan to shoot the video for Karma in Jamaica.”
