Singing Melody Leads Out The ‘Summer Feelings’ Album
The Summer Feelings project is the perfect example of New Age Reggae, a mish-mash of R & B flavoured reggae anchored by sweet piano riffs and a bouncy dancehall beat.
Reggae singer Singing Melody delivers ‘How Could You?”, the standout song on the project, a well-written song that addresses the pain of heartbreak from a male perspective. Singing Melody meanders between bleeding all over the track at the pain caused by his lost love, and typical male braggadacio as he growls : ‘gwaan if yu waan gwaan girl’. Finally Singing Melody ends with a resigned statement: ‘both of us have lost this race’.
This riddim is a joint production between artist-producer Whitter the Legend and his business partner, Daddy English.
“This instrumental was inspired by young Female artiste, Sunshine Velvet due to a song that she did for them, but instead turned out to become such a great project, with about 14 tracks,” Whitter the Legend told DancehallMag.
“This project is the opportunity to showcase some amazing young talents alongside a few established acts as well.”
One of those young talents is Sunshine Velvet who shines with the beautifully constructed and artfully delivered ‘My King’ where she shows off the full range of her sparking vocals.
Other standout songs on the project include Topmann who complains about betrayal which triggers his depression to the extent where he wants to give up on mankind, as shown by the line : ‘mi outside dawg , haffi gun up and pray/mi feel fi go Mars and bun a one day’.
Janice Lue sings about a ‘Suicide Love’, showing off some amazing chops while Oceeean Eyes promises to walk away from ‘Toxic Love’. The writing skills of these young singers is quite promising for the future of the reggae and dancehall industry. Kalado drops a potty-mouth verse on the perverse ‘Wet for You’ which is full of S & M images and raw sexual imagers.
This project was made available for pre-order March 31st and was officially released on April 8th on all purchasing platforms. The project peaked at #4 on Amazon Best New Reggae albums and #37 on Amazon Best Reggae Album sellers.
