Nigerian singer Burna Boy’s On The Low, an Afrobeat/Dancehall fusion love song, is now certified Gold in the United States three years after its release.

On The Low was certified Gold yesterday (April 26) by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) after it reached the sales and streaming equivalent of 500,000 units sold in the United States.

Produced by Kel-P, the song appeared on Burna’s Grammy-nominated album African Giant (2019).   Its official music video has racked up over 260 million views on YouTube since its release in November 2018.

This is the second Gold certification for Burna Boy.  His 2018 hit Ye, which appeared on his Outside album, had hit the milestone in May 2021.

Ye is also certified Gold in the UK for sales exceeding 400,000 units, while On The Low is certified Silver for sales exceeding 200,000 units in the country, according to the British Phonographic Industry (BPI).

Both songs were certified Platinum in Canada on April 14, 2022, for sales exceeding 80,000 units each.   Anybody, off the African Giant album, was also certified Gold by Music Canada.

Tomorrow, April 28, Burna Boy will make history as the first Afrobeat artist to headline a show at the Madison Square Garden in New York City.  The show has been sold out, but the artist has announced a “One Night in Space” livestream, hosted on YouTube beginning at 9 p.m. ET.

“It’s a really exciting time!” Burna had told Rolling Stone when the show was first announced in December. “A kid from the south side of Nigeria headlining Madison Square Garden in New York as the first-ever Nigerian to achieve this! Not sure it gets any better and I’m extremely grateful!”

Burna, 30, whose real name is Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, won the Grammy Award for Best Global Music Album with Twice As Tall (2020).
