American actor Johnny Depp appears to be a fan of Bob Marley, after turning up to court on Wednesday blaring the Reggae King’s 1977 hit Exodus from his black SUV.

According to a Daily Mail video, the defendant in an ongoing defamation trial, Amber Heard—who also happens to be Depp’s ex-wife, is seen making her way into the Fairfax County Circuit Court. Shortly after, Depp and his legal team pull up as the lyrics, “Movement of Jah people…” emanate from the vehicle’s speakers.

The actor emerges from the vehicle clutching a tiny book, and a large cup of coffee. Supporters who turned out in their numbers were heard yelling his name, and other sentiments such as, “love you!” to which he exchanged a wave and “thank you.”

Depp is the plaintiff in a defamation matter brought against his ex-wife Amber Heard, over claims she made in a 2018 op-ed that he domestically abused her throughout their marriage.

The Pirates of the Caribbean actor is suing for US$50 million in damages, while Heard is countersuing for US$100 million, insisting that she was only ever violent with Depp in self-defense or defense of her younger sister.

Exodus is one of Marley’s most prominent tracks. It was released when the singer was 32 years old and formed the title track of an album of the same name.

Released on June 3, 1977, the timeless album came at the time of Bob Marley’s own physical exodus to London after a brazen attempt on his life at his home in Jamaica.  The attempt on the singer’s life is widely perceived as politically motivated, and Marley spared no lyrical effort with his seething sedition on the collection.

The album was a success both critically and commercially—it received gold certifications in the US, Canada and France and platinum in the UK, and was the album that propelled Marley to international stardom.

Marley’s Paramount biopic, set for release on January 12, 2024 with British actor Kingsley Ben-Adir in the lead role, will also explore the making of Exodus, according to its director Reinaldo Marcus Green.
