Ziggy Marley Says NRA And Gun Makers Should Pay For Security In Schools
In the aftermath of the mass killing carried out by 18-year-old Salvador Rolando Ramos at a Texas elementary school, Ziggy Marley, has, among other things, called for US gun manufacturers and the National Rifle Association to pay for the provision of security services at all schools in the country and more judicious gun laws.
On Tuesday, Ramos shot nineteen students and two teachers to death, and wounded seventeen others at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. Prior to that the teen had shot his grandmother in the forehead, severely wounding her.
Ziggy who had shared a video post of Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr pleading for the reform of gun laws, while expressing mortification about the mass killing, used the opportunity to rip into politicians on both sides of the divide for being irresponsible for not ensuring the appropriate laws are enacted to prevent easy access to high-powered weapons.
“18 children slaughtered at one location in the United States of America by one teenage gunman with an American weapon of war he bought in a store. A weapon of fking war!!!” the Tomorrow People artist stated.
“How that sound to you?? that sound right?? last week it was ten African Americans in one shooting with another American weapon of war bought by another teenager from a store. This is the society the greatest country on earth that repeatedly do nothing to figure this sh-t out. really? we can’t do better???” he added.
The father of seven also turned the heat on anti-abortion politicians, whom he inferred were duplicitous in their sanctity-of-life sentiments.
“Where are the politicians on this who claim they want to protect the lives of children by regulating a woman and her body but will do nothing to regulate weapons of war to protect children from constantly being killed by these weapons in the united states of america 🇺🇸. the hypocrites 😡😡 they dont really care about childrens lives 🤬🤬,” he declared.
“Look at the history of school shootings in America and kids lives lost yet these power hungry politicians are quick to proclaim their self righteousness about the sanctity of life but do zero to address this particular way of death for our children 🤬🤬 the only lives they really care about is theirs and their family. Our lives our childrens lives mean nothing to them it is evident…,” he added.
Ziggy later predicted in the comments that the political leaders whom he described as “weak”, would still sit idly by until the same “cycle repeats itself”.
In response to one follower’s comment that there were no mass shootings in places like court houses and airports, which are heavily secured, and that it should be mandatory for armed security personnel to be in schools, Ziggy said that was also a good idea, and went a step further.
“That’s one thing how about lets make the gun manufacturers and the @nra pay for all the schools security in America… that way the schools can use their funds to educate the children properly. But also remember the racist that killed ten African Americans was shot by a ex police who was the security and he stilled murdered 10 human beings, so its not fool proof we need a multifaceted approach,” he added.
“Even the democrats all of them are culpable none of them getting a pass from me right now… all of them are culpable,” he later added.
In elaborating further on his point after one follower asked whether he was pro-abortion, and why was he not “discussing the hundreds of children killed in inner cities every year”, Ziggy said that his concern was about the selfish inaction of politicians in the face of clear and present danger.
“I’m saying high and mighty self righteous politicians do the fck something to address this just like they do for anything else that is politically beneficial to them. That’s what I’m saying. Or is doing something anything about mass killings of children by guns not politically beneficial to them ? thats whats up!!!” the Rebellion Rises singer stated.
Ziggy also said there was a need for a balance to be struck between protecting human life from what he described as “an overwhelming crisis of mass killings in America and the rights of responsible citizens to bear arms”.
“It’s not one or the other like in life itself we need balance right now this sh-t is way out of balance. There will always be some sick person who commits atrocities but how do we lessen the chance of that continually happening and mostly in America,” he noted.
“There is a problem we all see it even responsible gun owners see it and nothing is being done to deal with it nothing killings, mass shootings , children shot dead in their classroom , weapons designed to kill many sold in stores to teenagers makes it easier to take human life just a normal day in society,” he argued.
After one follower argued that “guns are not the problem, people are”, as people hell-bent on killing will do so whether or not they have access to guns, and will use “whatever they can get their hands on”, Ziggy countered that it was exactly for this reason why the authorities ought to be judicious in determining who can access guns.
“So maybe they should regulate the people who can get mass killing weapons from the store since people are the problem,” Ziggy stated.
“The issue is unique to America this form of violence against children and mass killings, so whatever needs to be done lets get it done. Regulate the people or regulate the guns do the fck something. Fckng prayers aint working,” he noted.
