Shab Don Reflects On Fatherhood
Embattled Dancehall producer Shab Don rarely gives a look into his personal life, however, in a series of Instagram posts last month, the Any Weather producer shared a moment with his daughter Linnae, as they celebrated her birthday.
In conversation with DancehallMag last month, before he was taken into police custody, the producer was firm when speaking about his responsibility as a parent.
“Bwoy mi nuh know how some man dweet, cause the youth dem a blessing, a dem we a live for, suh mi nuh know how some man pree fi nuh inna dem children life, cause me grow without a father and a mother suh mi know how it feel,” Shab Don said.
Using himself as an example, he admonished men who fail to honor their responsibility because they’re no longer in relationships with the mothers of their children.
“My daughter’s mother and I are not together and everything gets done, a me provide clothes, groceries every week, and mi spend time with my daughter same way, and mi an ar modda lef from mi daughter born,” he said. “I have to be in her life, mi nuh wah a nex man mine mi daughter true mi an mi baby modda lef, dat a wukliss man style.”
Shab Don, born Linval Thompson Jr., will spend father’s day and his birthday on June 20, in police custody. On June 3, he was detained by members of the Joint Anti-Gang Task Force during a targeted operation in the St. Catherine South division.
His arrest is in connection to the murders of 27-year-old Chadwell Frazer, also known as ‘Bomb Brain’ or ‘Chad’; 24-year-old Chamario ‘Chippy’ Calvin, and 26-year-old Toniann ‘Too Fly’ Reid 26, on Marl Road in Rose Heights, St. James on May 25.
He was subsequently charged by the Major Investigations Division with 3 counts of murder after he was positively identified in an identification parade and questioned by police with his attorney present.
Thompson’s attorney, Donahue Martin told DancehallMag on Thursday, June 16, that his client denies all the accusations. “We weren’t even in St. James during that period,” Martin said.
The matter is set for mention in the coming weeks.
