It’s been a whirlwind year for country reggae music Wesrok. He did a couple of shows in the Miami, USA, and achieved his first million streams online across several platforms.

He’s now saddling up to make his Reggae Sumfest debut on July 23 at the Catherine Hall Entertainment Complex in Montego Bay, St James, and described the feeling as ‘euphoric’ and overwhelming.

“I have been putting in the work so greater things are in store. This has definitely been a dream of mine so this is like dream coming to reality, I am ecstatic to get a chance to showcase my music internationally,” Wesrok told DancehallMag.

Billed as Main Festival Night 2, it features a stellar line-up including Beres Hammond, Dexta Daps, Sizzla, Beenie Man, Bounty Killer, Cham, and Wayne Wonder. Wesrok, whose sound is influenced by country legends like Kenny Rogers, is looking forward to his biggest gig to date.

Since 2020, Wesrok (real name Percival Buddan) has made in-roads in the reggae world with folksy songs like Poor Country Boy and Born As A Winner. Recently, he collaborated with dancehall acts Masicka on Try to Hold Me, and Laa Lee on There’s A Party as he wooed a younger generation of fans.

“Everything is coming together in a big climax at this year’s Sumfest show in Montego Bay,” he said.

A former member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, Bog Walk-born Wesrok launched his recording career two years ago with the song Looking Back. It was followed by Poor Country Boy and Born As A Winner as well as the EP, Look at me Now.

Reggae Sumfest takes place July 18-23 at Catherine Hall in Montego Bay.
