Sean Paul’s ‘Got 2 Luv U’ With Alexis Jordan Certified Gold In The UK
Got 2 Luv U, a 2011 song by Dancehall superstar Sean Paul and American singer Alexis Jordan, is now certified Gold in the United Kingdom (UK).
According to the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), Got 2 Luv U was issued a BRIT Certified Gold award today (July 8), after it sold over 400,000 copies in the UK, as measured by The Official Charts Company.
Produced by the Norwegian duo Mikkel S. Eriksen and Tor Erik Hermansen of Stargate, the song was the first single off Paul’s fifth album Tomahawk Technique.
The love ballad was originally written by OneRepublic’s lead singer Ryan Tedder, as an unreleased breakup song called Not To Love You . But, it was given to Sean Paul, who wrote two new verses and changed the title, while Alexis Jordan sang Tedder’s original chorus and third verse with fresh lyrics.
Got 2 Luv U was the only US hit for Jordan, who rose to fame as a contestant on the first season of America’s Got Talent in 2006 at the age of 14.
The song peaked at No. 84 on the US Billboard Hot 100, No. 11 on the UK Singles Chart, and achieved international success as a top 10 hit in Australia, Belgium, France, Germany, Norway, Poland, Spain, and Switzerland.
It was featured in the 2012 film Magic Mike.
Meanwhile, Got 2 Luv U is already certified Gold in Austria (15,000 copies), Canada (40,000 copies), and Spain (20,000 copies), and is currently Platinum in Australia (70,000 copies), Germany (300,000 copies) and Switzerland. (30,000 copies).
Its official music video, which was shot at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas, and was directed by Ben Mor, currently stands at over 439 million views on YouTube.
Sean Paul’s other Gold-certified singles in the UK are Like Glue , which was certified earlier this year, Mad Love with David Guetta and Becky G, Baby Boy with Beyonce, and Temperature.
His Platinum singles in the UK are No Lie with Dua Lipa, Get Busy, and She Doesn’t Mind.
