Ziggy Marley: “Wombs Should Not Be Regulated By Government”
Ziggy Marley has registered his disapproval of the United States Supreme Court’s overturning of the constitutional right to abortion, which opened the door for individual states to ban or severely restrict the ability of women to terminate pregnancies earlier than 12 weeks.
According to the Tomorrow People artist, this amounts to a clear case of misogyny, and a total lack of respect for women and girls.
Ziggy, who now lives in California, was particularly incensed that women and girls who had no culpability in terms of how they got pregnant, ie. rape or incest, could be denied the right to terminate pregnancies after the court jettisoned the 1973 Roe v Wade ruling which entitled pregnant women to an abortion during the first trimester, while allowing for legal restrictions and bans in the second and third trimesters.
“The United States latest acquisition following in the proud tradition of acquisitions. #alaska which was acquired from #russia #louisiana which was acquired from the french, not to mention numerous native lands that was acquired some by sale some by force. States rights huh!” Ziggy wrote in an Instagram post.
“What about a woman’s universal right? She now has no say but some justices in robes, politicians in suits not to mention the child sexual abusing institution full of “holy” fathers do? Raped, incest, abused, her life NOTHING at all?” he added.
According to Ziggy, the decision amounted to the suppression of, and dictatorship over women, and is akin to the behaviour of the Taliban leadership in Afghanistan which treats women as lesser beings, and prevents them from getting educated beyond primary school, among other things.
“She must do what the state tells her to no matter the price or consequences she has to pay? Wow! Holy dictatorship #batman!!! Talk about Talibanistic aspirations. There was always a discussion to have about the nuances of abortion but to completely and absolutely take a woman out of the discussion is crazy and misogynistic. Why? Cause if you can’t trust women to choose wisely for themselves then who can you trust? #respectwomen,” he declared.
“I speak my truth whether some like it or not 🙏🏾,” Ziggy added later.
He later got into a verbal spat with ibexnotasheeople after the follower declared that Ziggy’s father Bob Marley, would not take kindly to his pro-abortion sentiments.
“Yeshuah does not believe in abortion it is taught from the fallen angels. Jah need to get your mind right Zig! Bob would be sad to see you post this mon,” he noted, to which Ziggy replied: “you seem to know him better than I did he was a much more evolved thinker than most think but in any case it wouldn’t be the first time we disagreed or didn’t see eye to eye on something 😂🤔”.
The follower however, appeared unperturbed and hit out at Ziggy again.
“Ziggy Marley, you’ve fallen into the world mon’, See the hypocrisy as abortion kills so many of our black brothers and sisters man its genocide!” he declared.
The Rebellion Rises singer, however stood his ground, pointing out the duplicity when it comes on to restriction on abortion versus guns.
“ibexnotasheeople, guns mon guns kill a lot of our black brothers and sisters that’s genocide. Can we get some action? And 🔥🔥on the at as well. Or only wombs should be regulated and controlled by government?” the 53 year old responded.
“Let’s be real and cover the whole gambit mon if we want talk about it without exceptions what will the states do about that. outlaw gun rights? You bet not. Can you imagine the uproar if states took away that right and how many innocent children lives are lost to gun violence yet still nothing is done its total hypocrisy life doesn’t only matter I. The womb it matters… Be truly pro life and not half and half,” Ziggy added.
The former Melody Makers leader also engaged in another stand-off with whosmfnnoah, who implied that he did not know how the American system of laws and governance works.
“You live in a republic. That means individual states make their own laws. That’s how a republic works. If a women isnt allowed an abortion in one state she can go to the next state. You Americans live in such decadence you act like such a disconvenience is horrific and that millions of women a day will be brutally disconvenienced,” the had follower contended.
“Because let’s face it they weren’t raped; they just decided they wanted to have sex without contraception. But my god having to go a few hundred miles across state lines the horror!! 😱” he said sarcastically, then added: “Guess what?? Communism is way more disconvenient…”
He continued: “Why are you only upset over things the mass media tells you to be uspet about???? And why don’t you understand how a constitutional republic works??”
Ziggy then responded with some sarcasm of his own.
“wjosmfnnoah, yup that’s how it worked when slavery existed , certain states kept it in place ,when women couldn’t vote when African Americans couldn’t sit at the same table as whites or attend the same school. I know how a constitutional republic works; it’s been documented,” he stated.
“States are allowed to take away your rights. It all depends on who is in power, so something that was established law can easily be illegal according to the whims of politicians. Is that how it works? I think I got it,” he added.
