Razor B Goes Soca With ‘Rhum In My Cup’
Dancehall hitmaker Razor B has taken a dip in the Soca pool for his latest single, ‘Rhum In My Cup’.
This isn’t Razor B’s first time experimenting with the soca genre, as he in 2016 collaborated with Vincentian artiste, Skinny Fabulous, for “Up in Deh”.
According to Razor B this is just one of his soca songs, putting his fans on notice that he plans to release more soca music.
“I’ve always loved soca music because of the natural vibes and positive energy that comes with it,” Razor B explained.
“I also grew up listening to Soca, Byron Lee is one of my favorites; so when I heard this riddim while in Trinidad i wanted to get the right energy to match the beat,” he added.
Released last month, Razor B’s team says the single has been receiving positive feedback, adding that the song was further bolstered by Jamaica’s signature carnival activation, road march.
However, Razor B says the song isn’t just hot because it is carnival season but added that it is a good high energy song and it is just what music fans need right now.
“I think most persons are gravitating to Rhum In My Cup because it’s a great song, the words are relatable, rum is the national drink for the Caribbean,” Razor B said.
“We love good music, good rum and having a good time,” Razor B added.
Similar to the overall lyrics of the song, the video for the single was directed by Duvinewlook and Ifidel Williams and showcases a fun party energy while promoting responsible drinking.
Produced by Trinidad-based BadBlood Entertainment, The Rhum In My Cup single will be the main track for Razor B’s performance on St Thomas Carnival this weekend and Tagz Carnival in Ewarton St Catherine next weekend.
Razor B is also billed to perform on Saba Island for their carnival on July 22
