Dancehall artist Lazer Maytrixx is a staunch believer in the death penalty for crimes of a gruesome nature.

“We have to send a message that once you take a life, you forfeit your own. There must be deadly consequences to certain actions “ he said.

He was making his comments against the background of the recent massacre of a mother and four kids in Clarendon.

“The act was grotesque, inhumane, and the solution is the death penalty for the perpetrator,” he said simply.

He believes that the death penalty should be an option even for impressionable young youths who have strayed into a life of crime.

“It appears that it is mostly ghetto youth do the killings but their co-conspirators are often people in high places, the ones who are pulling the strings are politicians, pastors even the same security force, so ghetto youths must stop being puppets or run the risk of losing their lives,” the artiste whose real name is Frederick Marsh, added.

The talented singer recently released a music videos for Ghetto Story – a new single he is aggressively promoting in the society – which uses brilliant word play and imagery to tell a simple narrative about the ghetto.

“The inspiration behind ghetto youth story is that as individuals we face challenges within the inner-city communities, however my message is that we can positively overcome those challenges through ambition and hard work,” he said.

Lazer Maytrixx said the reaction to the song has been “overwhelmingly positive”. He believes that the key to surviving the ghetto revolves around two things: opportunities and role models.

“The ghetto lacks a wealth of positive role models and when you add a scarcity of opportunities, that is a recipe for disaster. When young boys see gunmen commanding power and respect because of the gun, chances are he will venture the same route, and the same thing exists with female role models,” he said.

He is originally is from Tucker, located in St. James. While he was growing up, he attended the Granville All-Age as well as Cornwall College.

Lazer Maytrixx is signed to indie label Love and Gratitude production, which is owned by Andre Minto. After signing with the St. Mary based label, he released four singles namely, General, Ghetto Story, Sweet Reggae music and Bedroom ft. Steffy Biz, which is his most popular song.

The artiste has worked with several veterans such as Buju Banton, the Shocking Vibes Crew label, and Elephant Man.

He is booked to appear at the Reggae Sumfest beach party at Harmony Beach, Montego Bay on July 20th and the July 15th edition of Boom Box in Ocho Rios, St. Ann.
