Jahshii Open To Clash Silk Boss, Intence At Sting, Not During Summer
Dancehall’s rising star Jahshii says, even though he is not averse to engaging in record-for-record combat with Silk Boss, Intence or any other deejay, trading diss songs right now in the Summer months, would not fit into his plans for the calendar year.
According to Jahshii, he was not about to allow Silk Boss or any followers who are egging him on to clash, to determine the pace at which he conducts his business affairs.
On July 19, Silk Boss took aim at Jahshii in a diss track titled Facts, after the latter recently mocked Silk’s motor vehicle, which appeared to be in need of repairs, on Instagram.
However, Jahshii said that, unlike himself who is fully booked and busy with local and overseas shows and voicing of dubplates, Silk Boss appears to have too much idle time on his hands at present.
“How you a guh think now fi clash summa time? Yuh naw get no bookings bredda. Yuh lock up inna yuh house naw nuttn fi do. A Canada mi a guh next week enuh Monday… and den Belize,” he told YouTuber and producer Terro Don yesterday, adding that his slate was full for the rest of the summer.
The First Nation artist said that he is following the traditional approach of Dancehall culture, in which the Summer months are dedicated to money-making via touring and performances, with the month of November dedicated to recording diss songs as a precursor to a showdown at Sting, which is Dancehall’s greatest platform for clashing.
Sting will make a return on Boxing Day, December 26, after a seven-year hiatus, at Jamworld in Portmore, St. Catherine, the place where all Dancehall arguments historically, are settled face-to-face.
According to Jahshii, he will lyrically flog Silk Boss and any other deejay who decides to face him at Jamworld, as he had taken cues from the late Merciless, who decimated Ninjaman, Bounty Killer, and Beenie Man at Sting 2000.
“We a guh meck Heavy D dem book him (Silk Boss)…all Intence dem… fi Sting… and wi rub out everybaddy. Yuh nuh si how Merciless deal wid Killa and Ninjaman man,” the Born Fighter artist said.
Jahshii also said that he reads the comments on his Instagram page and elsewhere, and realizes that the more thoughtful, mature and genuine fans who are truly looking out for his interests, are recommending that he does not engage in a record-for-record clash.
He also insisted that it was a ridiculous idea for artists to be voicing clash tunes as these songs should be reserved for the lead-up to Sting, as they would not resonate with the audience at Summer shows, as the summer holiday period was meant for fun songs and “Summer songs”.
“Dancehall a miss out pan Sting. A Summer now, man fi a fine chune fi di gyal dem fi guh tour di world now bro, or my type a song dem. A summa; mi nuh have time fi dat. Wi have bookings fi Dream Weekend. Weh mi a guh do? Guh pon Dream Weekend guh sing clash chune? Or guh pon Sumfest guh sing clash chune? No bro, wi a get bookings and dem ting deh suh we nave di crowd fi guh sing dem chune deh,” he explained.
“Yu si when Novemba touch Octoba an wi seh yow rrrr, den yuh know seh clash gone straight into di Sting… Yuh prove yuhself paa stage. Yuh nuh know dat inna Dancehall aready? From Vybz Kartel and Mavado days bredda.. A pan stage wi know di ting dem happen nuh man. A right a Octoba, Novemba deh suh clash song start man, yeh. Clash song nuh guh inna Summa time mi faada. How clash song fi guh summa time? Wi study Dancehall music enuh. Clash can neva guh summa time,” he emphasized.
Added Jahshii: “A das why dem young artiste nowadays a try mash up fi whole history an di whole levels a Dancehall; music. Suh how you a guh tink now fi guh clash summa time.”
When Terror Don asked whether Jahshii was making it clear that anyone who wants to “war” has to engage him in a battle at Sting 2022, he replied in the affirmative, stating that he was looking at the “bigger picture”, studying his “assignments” and was dropping girl’s songs right now.
He also noted that clashing with songs on YouTube was highly impractical.
“A pon stage dem ting deh gwaan bro. Memba see a di crowd judge enuh. You caan judge wid YouTube… Yuh nuh decide clash pon YouTube. Weh yuh a guh do, read through every comment? Yuh caan read through every comment dawg. If di crown guh suh ‘raay” or do crowd guh suh “noo”, yuh know seh a dah man deh win di clash paa stage,” he said, adding that the determination as to who the audience says wins clashes is made by Sting promoter Isiah Laing and MC Nuffy, and artists cannot declare themselves winners.
