Skatta Burrell Says He Knew Of Ishawna’s Sumfest Plans, But Bogdanovich’s Apology To Bounty Killer Unnecessary
Reggae Sumfest’s Marketing Strategist Skatta Burrell says he was fully aware of Ishawna’s plans for the cardboard cut-out of Bounty Killer at Concert Night One of the festival last weekend, and while he also understands why the Warlord appears disgruntled, the apology issued by Joe Bogdanovich was unnecessary.
“No one knew about it, but I was aware of what Ishawna was gonna do. I saw her cut-outs. I knew her plans that she had for what she was gonna do onstage. And I had no objections to it. People can seh mi support slackness…,” the Coolie Dance producer stated, in an Instagram Live session just after 11:00 last night.
“Meck mi meck dah declaration yah: Downsound Entertainment was unaware, but I knew. I knew about a lot a di stunt dem weh di artiste dem a come wid. And as far as I am concerned when mi look inna di rule book, I don’t see nobody violating the guidelines of Reggae Sumfest or the police or City of Montego Bay,” Skatta said.
Added Skatta: “Ishawna meck har cardboard cut-out. And shi seh di first revenge shi a teck, a pon Killa. A fi har business…. Shi do weh shi fi do pon stage. Of course Killa mus teck offence; he is a human being. Of course he must be offended and feel a way, enuh. Suh me nuh surprise seh Killa upset”.
Following Ishawna’s performance in which she, in an explicit performance at Reggae Sumfest Concert Night One, mimicked a taboo sex act, involving a cardboard cut-out of Bounty Killer’s likeness, the Long Donkey Cod deejay had responded ruthlessly and described Ishawna as a Dancehall mattress and a witch, among other things.
On Monday, Chairman of Downsound Entertainment Joe Bogdanovich issued a public apology to Bounty denouncing Ishawna’s actions as “disrespectful and inexcuseable” noting that that the Equal Rights artist had incorporated words and images that were insulting and demeaning, and that the organisers of the festival were unaware of what she was up to.
He had also said that Reggae Sumfest does not condone performances that insult or denigrate other artistes or individuals and that her behaviour was strictly prohibited under Sumfest’s policy and the agreements between Downsound and its artistes and that Bounty, whose given name is Rodney Pryce was respected on a “personal and professional level”.
However, on Thursday night, Skatta said that after Bogdanovich broached the idea of an apology to him, he had advised him against offering one.
“Mi just vex how Joe guh meck apology. Caw Joe call mi bout it di morning and mi seh: ‘Joe, don’t get involved’. He called me and seh: “What happened on the stage? What did Ishawna do? Mi seh Joe, leave it alone; a two artiste. Leave it alone. Him seh ‘alright’” Shatta revealed.
“By di time mi get pon a plane and reach a foreign, mi si a big apology come out. Well, Joe is the owner of Reggae Sumfest suh if he wants to issue an apology on behalf of Reggae Sumfest, he is within his rights,” he added.
“Well, I can make this disclaimer though. That’s not my apology. This is Joe’s apology. OK. I can’t remember no time when a promoter come forward and apologise for an artiste behaviour towards another artiste… Suh Bounty neva get no apology from me… mi nuh have no reason fi give no apology to Bounty Killer. Mi nuh do Killer nuttn and Killa nuh do mi nuttn. Ishawna had an issue with him and she addressed it. Dat a between di two a dem; mi nuh care.”
Skatta also addressed comments made by Bounty during a performance at the Meca club in Kingston on Wednesday night, where he deejayed that, instead of provoking him, she should instead approach Skatta and beat the producer in his face with her pad.
According to Skatta, he found the Warlord’s antics amusing and that his pad lyrics came as no surprise, as he already knew what his temperament was like, and that because Bounty sees himself akin to a Prime Minister in Dancehall, felt he had a duty to respond and rebuke.
“Who don’t understand this I am sorry for you all… Yuh think seh Killa vex. Killa is just playing the game,” Skatta said.
“Him know seh me stan up wid Ishawna suh him shoot afa mi. enjoy oonuself. Laugh,” he told his followers, noting later that he knew Bounty had rated Ishawna from Alliance days.
“Den how mi fi feel away when Killa seh dah nawsi suppm deh fi beat mi wid pad an dem suppm deh. A one likkle nawsi suppm dat yuh talk Killa; mi woulda neva put dat in a lyrics still,” he added.
