Jahshii Makes About-Turn, Records Violent Song Targeting Silk Boss
Mere weeks after stating that he would be steering his music away from violent content, First Nation artist Jahshii has made an about-turn with Miggle Day, a counteraction song, released yesterday, that is riddled with vitriol supposedly aimed at Silk Boss.
In July, following two “diss songs” Silk Boss aimed at him (Facts and Runner), Jahshii had told YouTuber/music producer Terro Don, that he would only clash Silk Boss and other foes at Sting in December. He had also said he would be focusing on songs that “touch people’s hearts”, as not he not only saw a void existing in Dancehall due to a lack of conscious new songs but that he has discovered that his true fan base gravitates towards his more uplifting tracks.
However, the Grants Pen native appears to have resiled from that pledge, and dropped the diss track to the delight of many of his fans who claimed his “coke head” references were made in relation to Skeng and posited that a lyrical war was now in full force.
While he was cheered along by the majority on YouTube where the music video was shared, there were some people who thought that Jahshii was contradicting himself or was confused.
“Mi thought you wasnt inna de violence tune again unuh jahshii was really looking forward to that,” AnointedRAndo Official said.
“Jahshii please change the messages being broadcast in your music fam as youth yourself the street are listening be the difference,” he noted, later adding in response to a follower who pointed out that it was a clash song: “clash brov a that the ting reduce to…..? so when you get the clash who those it profit…? who’s pocket get line with silver or gold ? Is a clash fi the youths them mind that fucked up already and a get fucked up even more is a clash fi that country needs!!!! Sight a bigger picture brov “respectfully “.
He was also jeered by MarcusRichie who noted: “Thought this man was focusing on more conscious song….TRACK STAR” and Crystal AnimeX who added: “man confuse yf!”
Other followers said that Jahshii had taken too long to reply to Silk Boss and so they were no longer interested in what he had to say.
“This shoulda drop 3 weeks ago, guh sidung … A Skeng and Masicka we wah see go at it!” on follower said.
A few contended that as a diss song, the track was below average.
“Dancehall really change everything one man say everybody agree smh ️ song is normal nothing special just being honest,” moneykid noted while another added: “One bagga yes mn inna Jamaica tpc nth nuh good bout the song apart from the melody”.
During his discussion with Terro Don, Jahshii had also said that where his generation of upcoming artists was concerned, there is a woeful absence of wholesome songs, even though these are in high demand, and he was preparing himself to fill the gap as “when yuh sing gun song and dem slack chune deh bro, if a man come tomorrow and a sing it madder, a dem yuh fans dem gone to”.
He had also said his desire was to motivate people through his music, and he realized that he had to be the one to do it as “if me naw do dat, there is nobody who a guh do dat”.
“Mi a deal wid dat becaw dat is weh me si a lane weh nobaddy naw too do right now… Yuh affi memba seh Jahmiel and Vershon dem forward out powerful and guh tun off enuh dawg. Cause dem lose dem fan base, dem real, core fan base weh dem build up outta people heart. Dem lose it and start guh to di likes and di comments fans dem,” he had said.
“But if me continue fi falla dem yah young artiste yah and do madness bro, dem a guh just continue seh: ‘yow, di whole a di young artiste dem a mad man’, enuh dawg. Suh me haffi try keep di focus no matta weh people a seh,” he added.
The Excelsior High School old boy had also said that he had long recognized that it was his conscious songs such as Born Fighter, which have earned him a growing number of ardent fans, and not the jarring content in songs such as Shift Change.
Jahshii also said that he knew his approach has resonated with people, as not only has he not had a major hit song since Born Fighter which was released more than six months ago, but he was being received everywhere he goes as if the song was “released yesterday”.
