Hezron Is A ‘Man on a Mission (M.O.A.M)’
Knowing that old ways cannot unlock new opportunities, reggae singer artist Hezron decided to step out on faith and take creative risks with his music.
And with this latest project, he has created an album with international appeal as he experimented with Latin-fused Cuban melodies, African sounds, R & B, and even Native American music.
“The production, I stepped it up on a wider scale and also the different cultures that I tapped into…, I did an African song fused with reggae and “Black Widow” which is a Latin-fused Cuban song…”Warriors Code” which is a Native American and “Tick Tok” which is an R&B so this is what makes it different,” Hezron added.
He hopes that his latest body of work, an album with the fascinating acronym, M.O.A.M. (Man On A Mission), will grant his fans a greater understanding of the unique philosophies that govern his life.
Released on August 19, 2022, the 17-track set was mostly self-produced, with credits being given to Tads Records on a single titled “The Rising Sun.” That number addressed the troubling issue of abuse among Jamaican children. Additional credits are given to Devon Bradshaw, Leroy Roman, Rohan Dwyer and Triple L for their contributions.
“I’m hoping that with this project they will realize who Hezron is—who really Hezron is, musically. I think even though they are fans of the music, there are still fans who really don’t understand the depth. They probably look at it from a surface. So, with this project, I hope they take away the level and the width of Hezron. It’s deeper than the surface. And I hope they realise that I want to evolve and take this thing to another level,” he said.
Recorded in Reggae’s birthplace, Kingston Jamaica, M.O.A.M. features some of Jamaica’s greatest musicians including Dean Fraser (saxophone), Kirk “Kirkle Dove” Bennett (drums), Donald “Danny Bassie” Dennis (bass), Mitchum Khan (guitar), Carol “Bowie” McLaughlin (keyboards) and Robbie Lyn (keyboards). On a lyrical front, the album embodies feel-good vibes with motivational and inspirational concepts that encourage patience and resilience.
Noting that this is his third album, Hezron said this one is outstanding because more attention was paid to its production, as well as greater experimentation with international genres.
Following the album’s release on Friday, Hezron has a few other stints lined up, including a release party at Sky Beach Negril on August 27.
“I have a performance the 21st—a Marcus Garvey tribute. People will get to see maybe two or more hours of Hezron at the Man On A Misson concert (on the 27th). People will get to see Hezron performing with his band. The band is called Hard Shield One Drop. So, it will be Hezron and Hard Shield One Drop. I’ll be heading out into the world right after this release,” the artiste continued.
