Jahazeil Myrie To Release Debut EP ‘Message’
Jahazeil Myrie, son of Grammy Award-winning Reggae artist Buju Banton, is hoping that his fans will lend a listening ear as he gears up to deliver his debut EP—Message.
“The inspiration of the EP is my life journey and the struggles that motivate me to put my all out on the project. This is my first project. The way I describe the EP is the style, fresh sound and positive lyrics,” he told DancehallMag.
The four-track set will be released on September 23. Minto Play Da Riddim, Eastman Music, DinDin Hemton Music, DJ Lethap Vybz and his very own 1Real Record label are credited as producers.
Jahazeil has been an active recording artist for a number of years.
His releases include “Hold On”, “Leave Dem Alone”, “Protection” with Quada and Projexx, “Rights” with IWaata, and “Keep Strong” among others. He has also collaborated with his father and brother Markus on the single, “False Pretense”, and has lent his vocals on the Spragga Benz single, “At My Door” off of Spragga’s “The Journey Chosen” album.
Having undoubtedly been around music for all his life, Jahazeil finds the up-and-coming crop of artists interesting. In fact, he is encouraging them to continue their experimentation with different sounds until they find their niche.
“The current state of Dancehall right now…I don’t see no problem with it. Everyone is young and have time to grow. I would say people are expirementing their talents, (and) writing skills in the booth. It’s good to try new things but the music evolves and changes every five years, or 10 years, so the state of the music is not bad. (We) just have to give the artists time to find themselves and bring it back to the roots where it once was,” he explained.

Noting that his inspirations range from his father to Bounty Killer, Beenie Man and Vybz Kartel, Jahazeil believes he has the chops to make him an outstanding entertainer.
“What makes me a unique artist is my voice and my sound. I always try to be different and don’t sound the same in my music,” he said.
His ultimate career goal is to collaborate with Bounty Killer.
In the meantime, he’s hoping that the apple didn’t fall too far from the tree and that he’ll walk away with a Grammy in the near future.
“I see my career as a Grammy artist with my positive songs and lyrics to the culture.
My advice to others is that never give up always try new things in music put God first and believe in your self and stay true to your self,” Jahazeil said.
