Popcaan has earned his first platinum certification in Canada for I Know There’s Gonna Be (Good Times), a song by English music producer Jamie xx which also featured American rapper Young Thug.

According to Music Canada, Good Times was issued the Platinum Single certification on Wednesday, September 15, after it sold more than 80,000 units from digital and physical single sales and on-demand audio streaming in the country.   In Canada, 10 track downloads and/or 1,500 on-demand audio streams are equivalent to one Single unit.

Released in 2015, I Know There’s Gonna Be (Good Times) is the third single from Jamie xx’s debut studio album, In Colour.

In March 2021, the single received Gold certification in the United States, after selling 500,000 units.   It was certified Silver in the UK, after surpassing 200,000 units sold, in 2017.

The official music video, which has 21 million views on YouTube, captured both Thug and Popcaan in their home turfs.

The song peaked at No. 115 on the UK Singles Chart and No. 90 on the Australian ARIA Charts. It grew in popularity over the years and was given a major boost when it appeared on the soundtrack for the video game NBA Live 16 and NBA 2K17 and for Kobe Bryant’s MyCareer spot.

According to Popcaan, he had actually recorded a full song before Young Thug was brought onto the project.

“I was the first person to record on that track still, I actually recorded a full song,” he told a Trinidadian radio station in 2015.

“They reach out to other people and after a time I heard that it was Young Thug. It did also took a while to through because you done know that we are from Jamaica so we have to run people file. It wasn’t my choice you know because Young Thug kind of shaky,” he added before acknowledging that Thug is a huge artist.

Thug and fellow Atlanta rapper Gunna are currently behind bars after they were accused of committing gang-related crimes in an 80-page Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act indictment targeting members of the Young Slime Life (YSL) gang.

Authorities accuse Thug of being the founder and ring leader of YSL.
