Stefflon Don Calls Out Burna Boy For Lying In ‘Last Last’, Says She’ll Never Date Another Artist
Stefflon Don says her ex Burna Boy told a lie in his hit breakup song Last Last.
The British-Jamaican artist was speaking with TT Torrez on a Hot 97 talk show where she was cornered about the old relationship, and whether or not she believes Burna penned that breakup track about her.
“We was together for two-and-half years…we had to move on,” Stefflon responded.
“When I heard it how did I feel?” she asked herself introspectively. “He said something in there and I was like, ‘boy that’s a lie. Whatever!’ It’s whatever,” she added.
In the Chopstix-produced single, which samples Toni Braxton’s 2000 song, He Wasn’t Man Enough, Burna refers to a love interest, who “manipulates my love.” On the track, which is the lead single off his summer album, Love, Damini, Burna also admitted to not being “holy” but had suffered heartbreak.
Last Last is already certified Gold in Canada for sales exceeding 40,000 units and Silver in the UK, for sales exceeding 200,000 units.
The song just reached a new peak of No. 53 on the Billboard Hot 100 and according to @chartdata on Twitter, it has also sold 500,000 units in the United States. However, it is not yet certified by the RIAA.
Stefflon and Burna had called it splits sometime in 2021, according to CapitalXtra. The pair had started seeing each other in 2019.
Since then, the 16 shots singer says she has totally been off the dating scene and is focused on her career.
“People don’t know that we’ve actually broken up for a year. People don’t know that because I guess they thought we was together when we wasn’t. I haven’t dated since—like no one. I haven’t even been out on a date like…,” she admitted.
Seemingly taken aback by this revelation, the host quizzed the Hurtin’ Me artist about why she’s remained solo with the magnitude of advances that are thrown her way by “athletes, basketball players” and so on.
However, Steff claimed that she only entertains men with whom she sees a long-term future.
“I mean DMs, yeah…You know what it is? I’m just a lover and I just love love and I don’t know how to go out with a guy without thinking yeah, I’m gonna marry you. You know what I’m saying?” she said.
“I feel like I’m wasting my time. Like, I’m busy. I do a lot. I look after my whole family so it’s like if I go on a date I’m like sh*t I could’ve been in the studio…it has to be worth it. I have to see a future with you which I feel like is so annoying of me.”
In her case, birds of a feather do not flock together, as the singer says she’s the only one in her friend group that’s not dating.
“All my friends they’re going out, doing stuff. I don’t talk to nobody. I don’t do nothing. My little sister was saying you’re boring as hell,” she added.
It seems the encounter with Burna has left a bitter taste in her mouth, because Steff says she will never date another artist.
“Not in music! I’m alright with that. Anything else. But not in music,” she said affirmatively.
In May, Steff had trolled fans with what she promised to be a diss track aimed at her ex-beau titled First Of All. To the disappointment of her fans, however, the mini-single was a notice telling everyone to mind their business.
Stefflon, whose real name is Stephanie Victoria Allen, was born in Birmingham, England. “The first time I visited Jamaica was when I was a young kid and was very different to how I experienced it being older,” she told DancehallMag, in an April interview.
She’s best known for her songs Hurtin’ Me with French Montana, 16 Shots, Senseless, and her collabs Calyso with Luis Fonsi and Boasty with Wiley and Sean Paul. She recently collaborated with Masicka, on the track Moments, with Skillibeng, on the track Stefflon Don, and with Spice, on the track Clock Work.
Tomorrow, she will have her first track with incarcerated dancehall artist Vybz Kartel called Amazing.
