A series of videos posted by selector Boom Boom of himself standing on a cart at a party, while using a crudely-made prop rifle, to simulate pumping multiple gunshots into a man, has not gone down well with some of his fans.

On Wednesday Boom Boom shared three the video clips of himself, cigarette in hand, supposedly paying tribute to Bounty Killer and Tugstar’s new song Lift di Rifle, at this week’s edition of the Boasy Tuesdays party in Kingston.

As Boom Boom “fires off” round after round, some female patrons jump and laugh and cheer him along.

“BoasyTuesdays Was Cazy Last Night…@1unogeneral (Bounty Killer) @tugstar1  BiG SonG In The Streets #TuffHeaD 🤦‍♀️ What More Cn I Do 🐐,” Boom Boom captioned the post.

While many of his ardent fans found the antics entertaining and expressed regret that they were not in attendance to enjoy the festivities, there were many who thought that his actions were reckless, in light of the large number of gun crimes in Jamaica, the high murder rate, and the pressure which Dancehall has been coming under.

Some followers scolded the Grants Pen native, and demanded that he set a better example.

“We might say it’s entertainment but it’s not for all bro.   Try use it in a positive way.  Too much gun crime now in Jamaica for doing this.   Remember younger kids looking up to you.  Respect,” one man noted.

There was tiff between one woman who was in support of Boom Boom’s actions and those who objected after one man sparked the debate by saying that he was disappointed in the BMW selector.

“Look a what they guys are promoting lose off a u boom boom. This is not dance hall you are carrying the movies into dancehall. Jah jah,” he noted, to which the woman replied: “hey lift up n shut up,dancehall boring n the ppl dem a nice it up back, y unuh so badmind mon… WHAT MORE CAN I DO??   Boom boom nuh need you strength bout you lose off a him, boom boom nuh love man, lift up,” she declared.

“If unuh no like it come out a music/dancehall because more is coming…we nuh care bout unuh kmt,” she added.

Another commenter, humbleguy26 had a lot to say about Boom Boom and those who were in support of his actions.  According to him, this kind of behaviour was what was destroying Dancehall.

“That’s why so much of unnu dying in the gettho. The kids are watching this stupid behaviour in dancehall, everybody have internet nowadays. A f-ckery this, you guys look stupid. The whole world is laughing at you fools. Unno mash up dancehall.”

“You are glorifying guns yet if the gunman shoot your kids or your relatives you cry to god and the government to help you. You’re f-cking hypocrites. No wonder Afro beats is taking over the international charts. These types of gun songs are only trending in Jamaica, New York, London, Toronto etc, because that’s where most Jamaicans live and they’re familiar with dancehall music,” he stated.

Continued humbleguy26: “But world wide: DANCEHALL IS DYING. That’s because people are tired of hearing violent lyrics. They’re tired of hearing lyrics that’s undermining our black women. I’m not badmind I just hate to see people laughing at our beautiful country because of people like you who are condoning violence and slackness. Wise up,”

However, Boom Boom got support from some prominent people in the music industry, among them, BBC 1Xtra disc jockey Seani B.

“I witness this at Boom Sunday. Mad ras ting…….🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Nutten nuh nawmal bout this,” he noted.

He was also cheered along by dancer Shelly Belly, who commented: “It’s a movie 🤣🤣🤣 and a seemingly amused Moyann, who added: “I bomboclaat a gwaannn 😂😂.”

Other commenters said that while they realise the theatrics were being done in jest, physical glorification of guns, was not needed within the Dancehall space.

“Bless up yourself King I know it’s all fun and games and it’s for entertainment but there’s too much gun violence in Jamaica for us to be portraying it in Dancehall,” one man said, while djcharmz added: “Gun violence so high in JA but you guys still promoting this and calling it jokes. It’s not funny my people please wake up!!!! I’m a big fan of the talent, but this needs to stop”.

“I was reading thru the comments to see if someone with sense is here because this is nowhere funny…Dancehall gone to the dogs..pure foolishness dem a promote..dem stop Dance with females, gun violence being promoted and garbage music,” beddy_milk stated.

One man said that Boom Boom, having himself lost loved ones to gun violence, ought not to be using his platform to promote such dreadful behaviour, as, by virtue of this, he was carrying out Satan’s work.

“I am very disappointed with you @billboardselector. We already have a society paralyzed by violence and wanton criminality and massive deaths and this is only glorifying and promoting the evil works of the devil. This is going too far now,” willpowertransformation said.

“You have lost many loved ones to gun violence and with this activity, you are endorsing it. Careful what you do as it will come to you. Help save Jamaica by being responsible in your job as a selector. Promote love, peace and harmony, be a messenger for God and not the devil. God is surely not pleased with you as he did not gift you to promote evil,” he added.

“Everything that this flesh practices is going manifestation… That what they promoting even going to affect their own family….those are deceiving spirit of the Satan,” aron832 added.
