The Universe Boss Chris Gayle is insisting that it is music, which will be his number one priority going forward, seemingly not cricket as many expected.

In an interview with the Entertainment Report at a party thrown by him at his Chancery Hall residence in St. Andrew, Gayle, who topped the charts in India, reaffirmed that he was taking his new career as a recording artist seriously.

“Music is gonna be number one.  I start my record label Triple Century Records and I am actually featured on an album for the first time – Sean Contractor big up yuhself.  Music is it.  Music the number one priority,” he stated.

The Excelsior High School old boy was featured, along with R&B singer Jason Derulo, Gentleman, Morgan Heritage, rapper Redman and Jah Cure on The Tropical House Cruises to Jamaica: The Asian Edition album, which was released in June.  His single, titled Gimme Your Love, was a collaboration with newcomer Shav-A.

The West Indies batting great, who is acclaimed the wealthiest cricketer ever from the West Indies, with a net worth estimated to be around US$40 Million as of April 2020, also said that despite his extravagant lifestyle, he was not flossing to show off but just to keep himself entertained and happy.

“I am not trying to live up to my name, because I am the Universe Boss.  I do need to try and prove anything to anyone, alright… I’m a real man and I keep it real.  I keep it very simple; life is simple; it’s not complicated.   Keep life simple, you will enjoy yourself and have  a good time… And remember, rich doesn’t mean money.  Rich is good health and good strength,” he said.

In June this year, Chris Gayle had said in a Television Jamaica interview that he felt he was at a point in music where he was unstoppable, and as a result, ready for live performances on some of Jamaica’s biggest musical platforms such as Reggae Sumfest.

“I can be on any show I want, put it that way.  I can be on any show I want.  Any show I want to be on Jamaica, I can be on it.  Universe Boss can, be on any show I want.  Is when I ready,” Gayle had stated.

He had also said that among his other upcoming plans, which would be fulfilled shortly, was a collaborative track featuring himself and Dancehall legends Sean Paul and Shaggy.  Gayle had made the revelation after host Anthony Miller inferred that by virtue of his wealth and status, “that also mean that you could collab with anybody you want”.

A year prior, Gayle, had taken to Instagram where he shared a photo of himself and Shaggy chilling in a studio, a hint that new music was afoot.

Gayle had also said in the TVJ interview, that he had now assumed a new modus operandi, and would be using his power and influence to achieve his objectives in Dancehall, instead of holding back.

“The name Chris Gayle is very powerful.  I just don’t use my powers sometimes.   But I’m getting into a different demeanour, different mindset now.  I am getting more rugged right now.  They not gonna take me for granted anymore or take my kindness for weakness.  It’s gonna be a different Universe Boss,” he had declared.

“What I want is the rating.  Get the feeling just like a proper artiste,” he said additionally.

In February 2021, Gayle had revealed that he was planning a serious Dancehall music career, while announcing a new single and the launch of his ‘Triple Century Records’ label, almost a year after he was recruited by Dancehall artiste Stylo G for a Too Hot Celebrity remix.

Gayle had also collaborated with Tanto Blacks for We Come Out Fi Party and later released the single Blessings, in February.

In addition, last Gayle had also said that he had many more “songs in the pipeline” and would be going into production.  He had subsequently released Jamaica to India in April a collaboration with Indian pop singer Emiway, which has so far, scored more than 58 million views on YouTube.
