Flippa Mafia Released Early On Parole After Serving Nine Years In Prison
The once flamboyant Dancehall artist Flippa Mafia has been released early on parole, after serving nine years in prison in the United States.
DancehallMag has confirmed that Flippa, 43, whose real name is Andrew K. Davis, was released from the East Jersey State Prison (EJSP) on Tuesday, October 4, 2022.
In 2016, Flippa was sentenced to a total of 25 years in prison (including 12 years of parole ineligibility) for his involvement in an international drug trafficking and money laundering ring that spanned Jamaica, New Jersey, and California. He was also ordered to pay a US$250,000 anti-money laundering profiteering penalty.
According to the NJ Department of Corrections, he was scheduled to serve a maximum of 17 years.
The terms of his parole are unknown.
Under New Jersey law, an inmate becomes eligible for parole consideration after serving one-third of their prison sentence.
Flippa had been nabbed in 2013, along with his girlfriend, Marsha Bernard. His brother Roger Davis was also arrested in 2014.
Bernard was sentenced to 21 years in prison for her role in the drug ring, while Roger Davis, was sentenced to 20 years behind bars. Roger Davis was among the 46 Jamaicans deported to Jamaica in April 2020.
Six other individuals in the drug ring pleaded guilty and received sentences ranging from 3 years to 16 years.
While in custody, Flippa reportedly completed his high school diploma and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.
In a video shared to Instagram last year, Flippa was seemingly content with his achievements and sang of his attempts to try and earn his way to freedom through education.
“Thinking for a change focus on the victim / I’m rehabilitating / I’m tryna earn my way out / earn my way out / I’m tryna cage my rage / I gotta earn my way out,” he sang in the video clip.
Also known as the Flossing King and Flippa Moggela, Flippa Mafia was known for his raucous and flashy shows where he would often give away cash to his fans.
He appeared in the 2002 movie Shottas as ‘John John’, with stars Ky-Mani Marley and Spragga Benz.
His songs include Repeat, Dem Yah, Mi Nuh Bruk, Unfinished House and Hear Mi Hear.
