Dancer Turned Artist Espuppy On His Latest Track ‘Money Heist’
Up-and-coming artist Espuppy is hoping to make his mark in the music industry. The Jamaican native, who is now based in Chicago, released his latest single titled Money Heist on Saturday (November 26, 2022) and already has high hopes for the track.
“My hopes for this track to show the listeners that poverty not only creates crazy circumstances but makes us develop thoughts that makes us want to do things we don’t necessarily don’t want to do,” he told DancehallMag.
It was produced by Kabu Beats and Fiinanse. Espuppy is more popularly known as a dancer.
He jump-started his dance career by working closely with the biggest company in the country: Dance JA. He moved to America three years ago, where he continued to spread the skills he’s accumulated. At the International Dancehall Competition (JCDC) he took third place in 2014 and first place the subsequent year. At the Dancing Dynamite competition in 2015, he also took first place. Espuppy is still on the ‘Battle Circuit’ and competes with other dancers and performers at local competitions both in Jamaica and in America. The entertainer has opened concerts Brian Jenner, Lil Bibby, Alkaline, and Sean Paul.
According to him, making his transition into music artistry hasn’t been a bed of roses.
“The journey has been tougher then I thought but it’s similar in a way, but it’s as if I’m starting over from scratch,” he said, adding that he has a support system but is eyeing collaborations with more established artistes.
“I would collaborate with talent but if I had to choose, it would be 450,Tory Lanez, Kingkruff, Coborine and Laa Lee because I know any song we would collaborate on it would definitely trend dance or club banger!” the deejay continued.
Aside from Money Heist, his other offerings include No Time and Pull Up.
Money Heist is an up tempo track that is almost reminiscent of Afrobeats. The artist says borrowing from other genres is part of his style.
“I actually have a Afro love song but i working on the license. I try to do all types of genres of music to be versatile, such as UK, Grime, Hip Hop and Afrobeat and not only that I change the beats, but I change the flows an accents as well as if I am from the UK or if I was raised as an American,” he explained.
In the meantime, Espuppy said supporters can look forward to seeing more of him in 2023.
“I have another single (called) Omega coming soon. I want to focus on cinematic visuals for music videos so not only I’ll bring good music but I’ll bring great music videos as if it was a movie,” he said.
