Shenseea Blames “Team” For Not Releasing Physical Copies Of Debut Album ‘Alpha’
Jamaican singer Shenseea blamed her “team” for not releasing physical copies (CD/Vinyl) of her debut album Alpha during a Twitter Q&A on Sunday.
The Blessed singer was responding to a question from the user @BadGuyAntoine, who queried, “where to find the physical cd of ALPHA? #AskShenseea.”
Her response has since been deleted.
Shenseea is signed to Interscope Records and Rvssian‘s Rich Immigrants. She’s co-managed by Romeich Major and Wassim ‘Sal’ Slaiby’s Salxco, while Donny “Dizzy Clean Face” Flores is her A&R manager.
It’s not the first time the 26-year-old has expressed displeasure with her album’s rollout. In June 2022—three months after its release—she spoke candidly to her 6 million followers on Instagram about the fact that she, ironically, did not have a lot of influence over how Alpha was released.
“Like, the first album, my vision wasn’t really executed properly and that was a turnoff for me…’Cause it’s like, yo, I know what the f–k I want,” Shenseea had told fans. “And when I don’t get what I want, it turns me the f–k off. And I don’t mind if I don’t put certain effort into certain shit no more because I know that I can put effort to make shit right in my next sh-t.”
In another Tweet on Sunday, Shenseea also revealed that a music video for her song Deserve It was not released, because, according to her, the “Directors f–ked it up so I decided not to put it out. It was so bad.”
Meanwhile on Instagram, she also warned in a deleted Story post: “I’m not friends with nobody this year. Do your f–king job or get replaced.”
Despite issues with the rollout, Alpha was the second most commercially successful album to be released by a Jamaican artist in 2022.
It debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart, with 4,900 units sold during the first week of release, and went on to sell 63,000 units by the end of 2022, according to data provided to DancehallMag from sales tracker Luminate. The 63,000 units included sales of 3,500 digital copies of the album.
Back in June, the Can’t Anymore singer declared that she wouldn’t be making the same mistakes again, as she’s taking charge of her sophomore project.
“I love my album. I love Alpha. The execution of it though was not the way I wanted it. But you live and you learn and one thing with me, I don’t repeat the same mistakes twice. That’s a fact. I do not,” she had said.
“People need to leave the artists let them do what they do man. You have some artists that they go with what people say and they continue going with what people say, while you have some that learn. I’m one of those persons—I’m one of those artists.”
Delving a bit deeper into the issues, Shenseeea had said there’s a lot of politics going on that has left a bitter taste in her mouth. “Yes! It’s the politics. Mi nuh like di bloodclaat politics when it come on to my music. Mi nuh like it. I don’t like it if anybody had told me that a lot of things that are happening behind the scenes artists go through it and it’s normal, I think they would be lying,” she said.
During the Q&A on Sunday, she revealed that the follow-up album was nearly complete and that new music would be released soon. “I’m on the last lap of completion so real soon,” she responded to one fan.
“Real soon, gearing up to get a music video done,” she told another fan, who asked for a release date for new music.
Twitter user @catchitbltch queried, “Will you be focused on one genre for your second album? Or will u continue to experiment and show versatility?”
Shenseea responded: “Hmm def gonna show versatility as always but imma really try to not be all over the place lolol.”
When asked how she was doing mentally and physically, the singer replied: “Mentally, I’m better than last year. Physically i need to do better lmao.”
Since the release of the Alpha, Shenseea, whose real name is Chinsea Linda Lee, and Interscope Records have both been named as defendants in two copyright infringement lawsuits over her songs Lick and Foreplay.
