Shenseea Hopes To Work With Kanye West Again: “Such A Mastermind And Inspiration”
Jamaican singer Shenseea says it was a pleasure working with embattled rapper/fashion mogul Kanye West.
During a Twitter Q&A on Sunday, the Blessed singer, 26, said she hopes to collaborate with the Ni**as In Paris rapper again soon.
“I love him, such a mastermind and inspiration,” she tweeted in response to “How was your experience working with Ye & would you collab again if you could?”
“Yes, we’ll do something again, God’s willing,” she continued.
Ye helped the Deserve It singer to earn her first two Billboard Hot 100 placements in 2021, through her features on the songs OK OK Pt 2 and Pure Souls featuring Roddy Rich, off his Donda album. OK OK Pt 2 and Pure Souls peaked at No. 12 and 52 on the Billboard Hot 100 , respectively.
Shenseea’s contribution to West’s album also earned her a Grammy nomination for Album Of The Year at the 64th Annual Awards.
After experiencing what it was like working with Ye, last July, the Lick singer tweeted, “I want @kanyewest to mentor my creative directions.”
When Kanye’s team had initially reached out to Shenseea, she thought it was a scam at first. “I was like, how would he even know about me,” she said.
Then upon meeting the music producer, she learned that it was her freestyle on the Crocodile Teeth riddim during her interview on Funk Flex back in July 2021 that had caught his attention.
Shenseea told L.A. Leakers’ Justin Credible and DJ Sourmilk in a March 2022 interview that she went on to record five or six tracks with the American rapper, which didn’t make the cut on his album.
“I was there watching people like ‘yow, he didn’t even put me on the album’ and I was like, ‘trust me, I almost didn’t make the album either,’” she told the hosts.
The singer revealed that she only found out which two songs made it onto the album when it was released on August 29. Though it was nerve-racking at the time, she was thrilled. “I love it because it’s so unpredictable but I don’t like it because I don’t even know,” she said. “And then I ended up on two? I never saw that coming at all.”
Even back then, Shenseea mentioned that Ye was an inspiration. “I love Kanye. Seeing him on social media and being around him is totally different. He’s a true living inspiration,” she said.
“The love that he shows me, the way that he embraces me, pulls me in and make me feel like yo I am a part of the team, I love that. He treats me like real family.”
In another disclosure through Sunday’s Twitter Q&A with Shenseea, the singer told fans that some new music is on the way and a new album is almost finished.
Meanwhile, Ye’s recent streak of anti-Semitic hate speech has cost him. In October, Adidas ended a deal with the rapper – resulting in him losing his billionaire status.
He’s currently being investigated for alleged minor assault, following a confrontation with a woman in Los Angeles on January 27, according to NME.
“The police had obtained video footage of West’s altercation with the woman, in which it is claimed that he knocks her phone out of her hand,” the publication reported.
“The video shows him standing in the middle of the road, leaning in through the woman’s driver side window. She appears to have had been filming him, as he orders her, “Stop with your cameras.””
“When she replied, “But you’re a celebrity,” West then allegedly grabs the phone from her hand and throws it onto the street.”
