Shenseea Attends Spotify’s ‘Best New Artist’ Party In LA
Jamaican singer Shenseea was spotted among a score of music’s hottest stars at Spotify’s 2023 Best New Artist Party on Thursday night (February 2).
Spotify’s 2023 edition, which was held at Los Angeles’ Pacific Design Center, was a welcome return after a 2-year hiatus.
As the streaming giant celebrated the artists nominated in the Grammys’ Best New Artist category, they brought out a star-studded group on the red carpet, including Latto, Anitta, Ice Spice, Wiz Khalifa, Machine Gun Kelly, Shawn Mendes, Charlie Puth, Diplo, Tove, Tinashe, and many more.
In an eye-catching piece from Pepa Salazar’s new SS23 collection, the Lick singer wore a sweeping denim tube dress with frayed, rip detailing. She added Chanel shades, a L’AFSHA clutch bag, and jewelry from Mara Paris to complete her look.
Attendees were treated to performances from all ten nominees, including Anitta, Latto, Domi & JD Beck, Måneskin, Molly Tuttle, Muni Long, Omar Apollo, Samara Joy, Tobe Nwigwe, and Wet Leg.
Latto delivered a standout performance of her hits, including ‘Big Energy (Remix)’ (nominated for Best Melodic Rap Performance) and ‘It’s Givin.’
The evening featured a special DJ set from CoCo & Breezy and a surprise set from Anderson .Paak.
For the past seven years, Spotify has played host to an annual celebration of the very best rising stars in the game. Shenseea has certainly been earning her way to receiving recognition for such.
The Jamaican star was selected as one of Billboard’s artists to watch in 2022, following her song Lick featuring Megan Thee Stallion.
For her feature on Kanye West’s Donda album, she received a Grammy nomination for Album Of The Year, performing on the songs OK OK Pt 2 and Pure Souls featuring Roddy Rich, which peaked at No. 12 and 52 on the Billboard Hot 100 , respectively.
Shenseea also earned her first nomination for an MTV Video Music Award (VMA) after she was featured as the platform’s “Global PUSH Artist” for the month of March 2022. She was nominated for “Push performance of the year” for her performance of R U That. The single featured rapper 21 Savage and appeared on her debut album, Alpha.
In October of that year, the Good Comfort artist followed up with another MTV nod, when she was nominated for the Best Push Act at the 2022 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs).
She also won Best Reggae Act at the 2021 Music Of Black Origin (MOBO) Award for Best Reggae Act.
On Friday, she also attended the BACARDÍ and ISLA MGMT present Boi-1da’s producer of the year nominee celebration in West Hollywood which included guests Ella Mai, Karrueche Tran, Murda Beatz, and others.
Boi-1da, whose real name is Matthew Jehu Samuels, was born in Jamaica. In addition to Kanye West and Shenseea’s OK OK Pt 2, he’s worked with Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, Drake, Eminem, Jay-Z, Lana Del Rey, and Kendrick Lamar.
