While Dancehall artist Popcaan is still promoting his fifth studio album  Great Is He (GIHE), he’s already thinking about his next studio project.

“Definitely a world tour, and a next album—ASAP!” Popcaan said during a sit down about his career and other aspirations, dubbed ‘Great Is He Album: A Conversation With Popcaan.”

“Because you know as big bro seh, ‘we cyaa done’…We have so much work to do and not stopping no time soon.”

Released via OVO Sound on January 27, 2023, Great Is He has opened at No. 3 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart this, after it moved 3,200 units in sales and streaming equivalent units in the United States during last week.

Popcaan’s previous four studio albums were FIXTAPE (2020), Vanquish (2019), Where We Come From (2018), and Forever (2014), which all debuted at No. 2 on the Reggae chart.

With all the success Poppy has accumulated under his belt at 34 years old, he was asked what advice would he give to up-and-coming acts, who might want to take a page from his book.

According to him, the secret to his success was self-belief.

“My advice is you have to believe it. You have to believe it before anyone else does because I’m saying this from my experience; not everyone is like Popcaan,” he shared.

“I’m very optimistic, I believe in myself a lot—I see it before it happens. I deal with the laws of attraction so I attract what I want to myself and I attract blessings and good living and I attract millions and billions to myself. You have to speak it into being and you have to believe it and you’ll see it happen in a flash. Believe mi.”

Of course, he mentioned that his only unattainable goal so far has been traveling to the United States, but he hopes that will change soon.

Popcaan, whose real name is Andrae Sutherland, signed to Drake’s OVO Sound in 2018. Since then, the two have been like two peas in a pod, and according to the Dun Rich deejay, it could not have gone any other way because they had immediately taken to one another.

“It’s a link up weh happen through music. It jus’ happen naturally because I remember when I sing Only Man She Want an my friends was showing me like Drake tweeted your music so then I did the FIXTAPE an’ di man dem rinse da mixtape deh an’ I had a concert here; it was my first time here an’ den Drizzy invite mi to him OVO Fest an’ den a after party an’ dats where the whole family start off,” he explained.

“With the chemistry an’ di relationship weh wi build ova all these years, it was only right that I sign to OVO. A lot of different label try to sign me but I think it would be right to go with OVO ‘cause family first.”

“I approach my challenge with music, because music is my therapy. If I’m going through something, I’m just going to sing about it and I’m good. I think you should just don’t feed into it too much if it’s negativity because once you feed into it, it will automatically devour you so you have to try to keep your mind positive in every challenge,” Popcaan added.
