Skillibeng Claps Back At Gage With His Streaming Numbers
Dancehall deejay Gage got quite the clap back after cheekily asking Skillibeng why he hasn’t produced any hit songs of late.
“Skillibeng, wha gwaan wid di beng?” Gage asked in his recent song Wha Gwaan . “Shell the place and from the contract sign, not a hit again,” he went on in the lyrics.
But in a seamless comeback, the Crocodile Teeth artist used the streaming numbers on his latest single, 16 Choppa featuring Nardo Wick, to do all the talking.
In a caption-less Instagram post on Friday (February 10), Skillibeng shared a clip of Gage’s song posing the question about his stagnant career and followed up with a second slide to show that 16 Choppa had racked up a whopping 1 million YouTube views in just six days.
The post triggered laughs from fans and industry peers online, such as Dovey Magnum, who asked, “A prank this 😂😂😂,” and Kemar Highcon saying, “Jah jah 😆.”
The post, however, did set off some debate among fans with many agreeing with Gage that the Whap Whap star hadn’t produced a hit since signing to RCA Records last March.
“Gage is a good artist… Him just underrated… And him neva tell nuh lie in that song….. Skili nuh find nuh hit again… Him just afi stay relevant and try find another hit nw,” one person said.
Others pointed out that Skilli wasn’t throwing shade but was simply responding to show that he’s still “benging.”
“Everything Skilli do oonuh hate… Gage wasn’t dissing him, u don’t think Skilli know that? The man just show what a gwaan wid the beng 😂😂 a question was asked and he answered🔥,” said one person.
Another commented, “Hypothetically speaking Skilli maybe just diss Gage and seh “look at my numbers in 6 days compared to yours in three weeks, you’re not at the level to question me”. Or, skilli could mean “yea man big up yuhself artiste just know seh di beng still a beng and shared Gage video fi send some views over deh because it’s actually good content ” 🤷🏾♂️.”
It appears Skillibeng’s IG post may have actually done some good for Gage’s song. Wha Gwaan has accumulated 561k views, Gage’s most viewed track in the last two years.
Skillibeng and Nardo Wicks’ 16 Choppa has since grown in numbers and is sitting at 1.2 million views. It’s a feat many fans argued would not have been accomplished if it wasn’t for the American rapper’s appearance on the track.
Gage’s song Wha Gwaan also posed questions to Jamaican other Jamaican entertainers, including Shenseea, Alkaline, Valiant, Masicka, and Spice.
