Lisa Hyper Says Vybz Kartel ‘Scarred’ Her, But Sends Love To His New Fiancée
Dancehall artist Lisa Hyper hasn’t had the most smooth-sailing relationship with incarcerated deejay Vybz Kartel, but still wishes him the best.
Speaking on the Tea Time with Shelly podcast on Friday, she hinted at the complex dynamic of their relationship, referencing the leaked explicit photo that has haunted her career for more than a decade. The image shows her giving oral pleasure to a man long-accused of being the Portmore Empire principal.
“When I left (the Empire) in 2009, the contract was also up and I couldn’t look at him after the picture came out,” Hyper revealed.
“I just never want nothing fi do with him and it’s not only because he hurt me, it’s because he hurt my father, my mother and my family as well… Mi father haffi go work (and) people a go ask him bout dem something deh. How yuh fi put me out like that mek mi father see that?”
She continued, “He scarred me but the scar heal because from yuh can hear mi a seh mi wish him all the best with him life and whatever, mi good, mi great.”
Kartel was convicted for murder in 2014 and is currently appealing his case before the Privy Council.
If there’s any lesson she would pass on to young girls from the traumatic experience, it’s to “not put your mouth on every penis that you come across, please… Mek sure you love the person. When you love the person, you do it with more passion too, and make sure the person is clean because some of these men aren’t clean.”
The Stress Who deejay has time again shared that she met Kartel when she was five in their Waterford, St Catherine, community. The Queen’s School graduate said she first became intimate with him when she was 17, and that their longstanding closeness is at the root of the friction between her and his former spouse Tanesha ‘Shorty’ Johnson. Yet, she gave her approval for Addi’s current love interest and Turkish fiancée Sidem Ozturk.
“I really like her,” she said.
“She’s a beautiful woman and mi can see seh she really check for him so mi alright with that. Mi just waan know seh him have somebody inna him life weh really love and check for him for who him is. At least mi nuh know if him a go get that otherwise from me cause him nuh easy fi deal with.”
Kartel history and a Dexta Daps tattoo aside, Hyper dished that her love life isn’t as unsettling as people may think. She said she already has her “husband” who awaits her with open arms once she’s through with the music industry.
“I have somebody waiting for me, for true, that treats me very well,” she said.
“I know what it is to be loved. I know what it is to be treated well. He feels like the music industry is not giving me justice and because I have to be doing so much things that he’s not pleased with, he doesn’t want me to be doing music. So, when I say I have somebody waiting on me, I do.”
Her latest release dropped a month ago, titled Can’t Do Me Nutn and produced by GAD People Productions.
