Dancehall producer and self-declared atheist Skatta Burrell is defending the visual direction of Ishawna’s latest single New Child, amidst criticism from some social media users that it is impious.

The Terminal 4 Media-directed project debuted on Friday with a congregation-like setting as its primary scene, amplified by Biblically-referenced lyrics, from Ishy feeling like a “new-born child” having rid a toxic ex-lover, to her stresses being “washed away.”

The music video for Ishawna’s ‘New Child’ is facing backlash from some critics who deem it impious.

Prefacing that you “can’t please everyone,” Burrell took to Instagram on Monday to rubbish claims that the visuals disrespect God.

“Well Dressed Women coming together in unity celebrating and enjoying an uplifting song that empowers them is now mocking God?” he posed.

“That’s not even a real Church. Some People filled wit resentment in them heart they can’t stand to see others Happy and Being nice to each other. they prefer to see half naked females cat fighting and hating amongst themselves.”

He went on to commend Ishawna, a longtime protégé, for being a needed voice in music for women, and extended thanks to those who made the YouTube-trending video a success.

Among that lot is Tiktok sensation Brittany Goffe whose scenes in the video – according to YouTube – are the most replayed.

Goffe and ‘Ms. Legendary’ doted on each other during a TikTok Live on the weekend where Ishy said, “If a girl nuh like deh song deh, dem love crasis because the song is about upliftment, love (and) enjoyment.”

Ishawna was introduced to Goffe through a video only a week prior to the shoot, and told Burrell she wanted her for the project.

“The video that I saw it was like you were crying about something, like you a seh ‘we nah deh back’, some man problem…but mi get fi understand a nuh man you a bawl over…”

Goffe clarified that she was actually in (one of her usual tit-for-tats) with her followers, but the women accepted their destiny to connect nonetheless.

Ishawna responded with encouragement.

“Keep doing you. Keep staying strong. Keep being beautiful. Keep being the star that you are and you’re gonna make it girl, it is what it is. Dem couldn’t did stop this.”
